I am giong to be picking up a 7.1 receiver. I don't have a lot of money so this is why I want to put this together slowly. If anyone can give me some ideas for quality front left/right and center speakers that are a good bargain that would be great. I would need to use book shelf speakers based on my room layout. The room is 23x18.

Thanks.

In the 'value-for-money' category I think it is hard to beat the ID companies. You know, the usual suspects: Axiom, AV123, Aiperon...

If you are willing to make a little effort, Axiom has an auditioning program and Aiperon offers free shipping both ways (if you decide to return the speakers).

Glad to see someone exercising some restraint. What's the budget your considering? Your room is decent sized so we'll want to make sure the speakers' sound will be able to fill the space. Are floorstanders out because of placement issues or WAF? Are there size constraints on the bookshelfs? Generally, it's better to choose the head unit based on the speakers to make sure the're powered appropriately.

Forgo the center and buy two Cambridge Audio S30 speakers. $219 including shipping from AVHiFi http://www.avhifi.com/xcart/product.php?productid=16133 . No center speaker available.

About the same price with center but not quite as good as sound, the Sony SB3000 bookshelf speakers sound very good for their price , about $100/pair shipped from B&H Photo. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/493591-REG/Sony_SS_B3000_SS_B3000_3_Way_Bookshelf_Speakers.html You can get a center speaker: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/493595-REG/Sony_SS_CN5000_SS_CN5000_Center_Channel_Speaker.html for another $100 shipped.

Make sure that the manufacture is the same for both the fronts and center to maintain timbre. Also within in a manufacturer's line make sure the sizing is fairly closely matched.

If you budget is more then there are other options
