Hi Guys

A friend of mine wants to add some speakers to his new 46" LCD in his living room. He needs something with very high WAF. He shopped a few soundbars and now seems sold on a BOSE CineMate II (http://www.bose.ca/controller?url=/shop_online/home_theater/21channel_systems/cinemate_systems/cinemate_series2/index.jsp?model=cinemate_gs_series2)

I almost lost it when he said he was going with a bose system ;)

I'm sure you guys can suggest something MUCH better for the same or less. This system runs $899 CAD with 2 speakers a "sub" and a "receiver". Check the spec's and you will see why I am using quotations on the words sub and receiver.

Please help!

Heh. Ask him to see if he can get this shipped to him, and pair it with this. That's 740 dollars for a system that will better the bose... but as an RBH / Marantz owner yourself... you already know that, don't you :p

An alternative would be to go with some bookshelves, if the wife likes em, i think the 400 dollar Usher S-520s are a nice looking speaker, and you could have them paired with an Emotiva Ultra Sub 12

At the least go with the Emotiva Ultra 10 sub. Check over at
bostonacoustics.com and click on Shop Boston - click on the
refurbish products - move down to the E40 speakers. They are
good - 3 of these and the sub with a refurb receiver from AC4L
is a good start.
