I'm thinking when my DLP goes out I'm investing in a better technology.
I have been saying the same thing about my Sony 60" SXRD since 2006. Since I replaced the blub and the optical block replacement under warranty (freebies) back in 2009 the thing is still working.

Plasma, LCD, LED, OLED? The DLP is good for the money, but the picture quality isn't as good as it is on the newer technologies, not to mention I've heard of too many issues with the Mits. DLP sets. Mine has been ok in the 4 1/2 years I've been using it, but I'm more interested in picture quality at this point. If I was going to go any bigger, I'd just go with a projector anyway. My next tv will likely be a 70" Sharp Aquos, unless something better comes along that is reasonably priced. But till then, I'm hoping my DLP only needs a new lamp before anything more expensive goes out on it.

I think I will get a 70" Sharp Aquos too.

Okay, I get the LED lamp lasting a long, long time - say 20 yrs? But it still does not guarantee that the TV won't malfunction before the LED goes out either.

Are these LCD-LED TVs somehow more reliable than standard LCD & DLP?

I mean a 70" LCD-LED is like $2600, but a 73" DLP is $1300.

Each DLP lamp costs about $50.

If each DLP lamp lasts 4 yr, the $1300 price difference buys you 20 lamps or more, which equals 80 yrs.

There are other considerations besides lamp price. The picture quality is better with plasma and led/lcd, and you can wall mount them if that's your thing.

Excellent points for sure.

But paying twice as much ($2600 vs $1200) seems an awful lot if you don't need wall mounting. :D

Do you think the PQ of the Sharp is even 40% better than the Mitsubishi?

I mean a 92" Mitsubishi for about the same price as a 70" Sharp TV seems kind of........I don't know.........not right? :D

Another factor to consider is the viewing angle, I believe that most folks have seating off to the sides and that view in regards to the DLP is not always the best but of course all points being made here are very valid , I mean a 90 plus inch set for the same cost is really throwing a wrench in ones selection process, I would go with the DLP for sure but my 500M is just too pretty to watch, not the best screen size but really nice PQ, someday I will change out and will go for the bigger screen .
