I've been keeping tabs on the latest Rives CD competition thread and keep seeing responses like 'I live in a rented flat' and 'I don't know where to start'. Well folks, let me be your inspiration!
- I live in a rented flat too! And guess what? It's dimensions are far from perfect. This is no excuse for not sorting out your room. Any room you will ever put your system in will be far from perfect. Room treatment can go with you wherever you end up living.
- Whilst hanging treatment from the ceiling/walls etc maybe the ideal, there's absolutely nothing wrong with simply standing panels up against a wall. Not wishing to make structural changes to your rented pad is no excuse.
- If you are reading these words, you already have access to the worlds greatest library at your finger tips, and many helpful people to boot. Saying that you don't know where to start with acoustics is no excuse.
- The equipment used to measure your room need not be expensive and so cannot be used as an excuse either. You can download freeware software, and armed with the spare cables that you almost certainly already have being the audioholic that you are, you're almost good to go.
- Treatment needn't cost an arm and a leg. DIY treatment will cost far less than commercial treatment and can be built-up as funds allow. No excuses.
You may not have much spare time in your life, but when it comes to the things you truly want to learn about, you'll
make the time. Go for it!
