Freaked Out By Samsung Buzz Issue, Cancelled Order. What $1500 Plasma now?

Between the buzz problem and the HDMI recognition issue people have had I cancelled my order on Amazon for the 42 Sam Plasma.

I am sure plenty of Samsungs go great and it was one of my favorite PQ's but if it had shown up and started buzzing or not recognizing connections I would not have handled it well.

That being said I am leaning towards a Panasonic but there are so many models between $1200-$1500 I am not sure where to start. Any solid picks Panny or otherwise greatly appreciated.

These forums have been a real help and I appreciate it.
BTW Looking for 720p. No need for 1080. Connections will be a Yamaha S1700 DVD via component and Direct TV via component both through HK AVR.

Unless I hear of something bad it looks like I am going with Panasonic TH-42PX60. FOund it for $1360 and have not yet heard any negatives.

I don't think you'll get many negatives on Panny. I've had a 42" for 2 years its been bullet proof.

I have compared the Panasonic and Samsung at issue here many times head to head(adjusting each intensively), multiple examples of each. The Panasonic is a better display from the aspect of overall color accuracy and false contouring in dark tones/shadows. The Samsung is better in regards to the sharpening/up-sample system, which results in sharper looking images with less artifacts, as compared to the Panasonic.

The Samsung frame/chassis is rather elegant in appearance, I believe. The Panasonic frame/chassis looks cheap, IMO.

I have heard the infamous Samsung 'buzz' on one of the 3 units I have tried. The example I heard was subtle, only being noticeable during silence.

At one time I would have chosen the Samsung over the Panasonic, because the Samsung looks a bit sharper. But after using each for some considerable time, I would choose the Panasonic, due to the reasons I listed above.

As for alternatives? The only thing I have found better than the Panasonic is Pioneer. Pioneer is like the (best features of) Samsung and Panasonic rolled into one, but unfortunately, so is the price....

As for what I have? I have the Panasonic, but that is because I got it for $950(and that is before the rebate that I have yet to recieve, which would end up making the final price about $750) on Black Friday.

you know the Government has had LCD technology since the 1980's.

I don't know that they've reported any buzzing, sure it wasn't you?
