That leaves the studios pretty well split down the middle. I think I'll be staying out of this format war until someone is down and out.
I really wish Toshiba and Sony would kiss, make up, and unify the formats . But with Sony's really dismal earnings report this week they need something to prop up profits so they will hold out and hope BD DVD wins the format wars.

I'm starting to think that they really did make an effort to band together under one format, but, alas, neither could overlook all the R&D time and money that they already had invested. I think both truly believe they have a very good product ready to go to market. I also think they are both scared to death about losing this war. Could that be why we see all this posturing in the press? HD-DVD joining with Microsoft. Blu-ray securing Fox. Are they playing chicken with each other, hoping that the other will get out of the way at the last second? Neither side wants to announce a release date for any of their products. I see nothing but speculation going on right now.

Wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall for one of these gazillion dollar boardroom decisions? :)
