OK, so I was watching the show "The Following" and the show from the week before last was wrapping up and they like many other shows play a track at the end of each ep. So I have the tv pretty loud to drown out my noisy house and went to the kitchen to get a water refill and the song grabs me...

Stand By Me {not john lennon or king, but a cover, and very different}...

Very cool check it out, I already bought it from i tunes...

Ki:Theory - Stand By Me - Audio Only - Seen on The Following FOX TV show Episode 203 - YouTube

I just threw it on the 2.2 in the large parlor and my son came out of his room and had me restart it, he was into it too, already tweeted it, lol...

I just listened to it on my phone, I'll have to fire it up on the stereo tomorrow for a good listen. It is definitely different from the original.

Interesting take on it, and it starts off better than it builds up to, but do not like.

Wow John I am surprised you are the first one, I played it at my shop today a few times {play listed it and went through a few times}, and it wasn't playing loud, I was under a truck adjusting the brakes {un-adjusted air brakes and ice don't mix well} and it was about half way through and a rep from one of my suppliers walked in, I seen his shiny shoes standing there waiting so I finished up and rolled out from under the truck, greeted him and while I was putting the tools away and washing my hands he said, "what song is this?" I told him and he wrote it down, he knew it was stand by me and liked it.

Also my office manager, who loves music {may remember she built the same csb/sb12 system as I have}, she also downloaded it...

As far as it starting strong and ending opposite, I think they did that on purpose because the original does the opposite, it starts soft and ends a little faster and with more feeling...
Stand By Me, Ben E King, 1961 - YouTube a great song in its own rite, and I have it on a playlist before I heard the cover by these guys, the rasp in the beginning sounds good when you play it through a decent system and not a bad recording for the early 60s...

The drum partition, snares in particular, are too loud and aggressive for my taste. I tend to agree with j_garcia. The start is inspired, grungy and nicely acidic, and then this "nowhere" over-bearing and loud drum partition just messes it all up. Perhaps the mixing job ruined it, but I think they should dump the heavy snares, and mute the bass drum and symbals to a 3rd of current volume.

But then again, music is subjective. It does sound like it fits into one of today's music undercurrents rather well, and I'm pretty sure it has a fan base already...

x3 - I do not like it >>>
I think that I would prefer listening to a squirrel play drums,
on the back of a turtle shell.:)

I like the Sara Niemietz version

ImcLoud,
Not the first one... the second one. Perhaps after I get 20k posts I will become a little less subtle than, "very different... yes". ;)

Exactly, I think it starts out great and then the changeover goes a bit too far in the other direction. I like the beginning a lot. Had it sort of kept the same mood, built up and come back down to quiet, I probably would have liked it better. The recording/mastering is really well done, that is clear at the beginning, but when it "blooms" it is hard to hear that anymore and the song gets a little bit lost in the confusion IMO.
