This might be a repost.

Regardless, it sounds like history is going to repeat itself. B/c Sony wouldn't allow porn on Betamax either, and I think we can see how that turned out for them. :) May wanna hold off on that blu-ray player purchase! :D

Not sure if it was posted here previously, but I have seen that. There is already at least one soft title scheduled for Blu Ray, but I think this one may be a big mistake for Sony. Not that porn has anything to do with my high def purchasing decisions...

It's a multi-billion dollar industry, and this moral position cost them the videotape format war imo... if I were a Sony stockholder I'd be pitching a fit. Deja-vu. :)

Yeah, but does it really matter when it comes to porn? I mean, porn in SD is fine, but porn in HD? Do we really want to see butt-pimples, surgical scars and the like in full hi-def glory?. I know I don't want to see that. A little softness in PQ for porn is not such a bad thing!

cheers,

I for one, would. Haha. I've never actually bought a porn dvd, but if I were gonna, I'd want to have the best picture possible.

The new formats will make old school DVD obsolete. Thus, 10 years from now everyone will be using either HD or Blu-ray. If HD has the porn... me thinks Blu-ray it gonna go down the drain. Another Sony debacle... notice any PS3's sitting on shelves in your local Best Buy? ;)

It has already been stated that only a small percentage of people buying the PS3 bought it because of Blu Ray (movies).

Well, it means that the porn industry will have to employ actors and actresses with more definition. :)

I just had this picture in my head of a guy in a smoking jacket with a brandy snifter on one hand, sitting in a wing-back chair, in a castle watching a copy of "Arma-get-it-on" thinking:
"could those butt-pimples be just a bit sharper?"

I thought some more about this....

One difference between now and then is the number of people who have the technology in their homes. There are plenty who will support each side, plenty who will support either one, and plenty who don't want to support either one until there is only one.
I don't think we will see a definitive winner until all the technology necessary to enjoy hi-res is more affordable (kind of like how standard DVD players can be had $100 or less).
But, no doubt, this will work against Blu-Ray.

I think this one will also take longer to shake out because Sony now owns movie studios, so now instead of just arguing that their format is better, they can make movies available ONLY in their format.

That is why the new LG and ma sure others to follow is and will introduce dual format players. Then, Sony can wallow in its own universe and people can play their movies and the HD moves without buying into a Sony single format player:D

Just read that Sony has NOT said that there will be no Blu-Ray porn. In fact, there's already such discs in Asia. But that plants making the Disney BD will not be making porn on BD; that will have to go to a different plant. But HD-DVD already has some momentum on the porn thing, and with it being easier and cheaper to put onto an HD-DVD, it just seems like Blu-Ray has nothing to do with porn, when in fact, that's not entirely true.

Not that I care, of course.
