I don't have experience with any of the products that you are considering, but I sort of interpret your question as "do I want another reciever or separates?" I would consider the Ultra Theater Series as a good way to get into a separate amp & pre/pro combination.

I would be checking them out to see if one had a feature set that fits your needs the best (you may have already done this). I would toss into the mix Denon 2807 & 3806 because of Audyssey. The Emotivas, and this is not a slight, win the cool factor by a mile, not to mention size.

I think given proper set up, they should all sound pretty much the same.

depending on your specific needs, i don't think you can go wrong with any of the choices you listed, however i have never played with the newer onkyos. if you aren't specifically looking for HDMI you may want to check out outlaw audio products as well.

New Receiver

I have a lower end Yamaha receiver and recently added the Emotiva LPA-1. I noticed a difference driving my 4-ohm Onix Ref 1's. The Emotiva pre/pro is lacking some of the features (HDMI, auto setup, EQ, etc.) of the latest receivers and the emphasis is on sound quality and simplicity. They will also have some new pre-pros out next year with HDMI 1.3, etc. and existing pre/pro owners will get 40% off.

If you are interested in the LPA-1 amp, you could also use a receiver as prepro instead of spending $1k for a receiver.
Yamaha RX-V661 + Emotiva LPA-1.

The Onkyo TX-SR805 also features the most recent and up to date audyssey auto setup.;)

That said, I vote for the TX-SR805.:D

I'm pretty partial to H/K (having just bought a second H/K receiver to go in my living room system to replace a dead Sherwood). For the money, I'd look at the AVR 645 from JandR. Their price is $840 off the list, giving you a $1400 (MSRP) receiver for well under a thousand, leaving some money left over for software!

everyone thanks for your recommendations...

I got lucky and have found the onkyo 805b locally and I will give it a shot, they say I have 7 days and if I do not like it I can return it with no problems..

thanks
