For the first time ever, I am enjoying a sub.

Having had bad luck with integrating subs in the past, I had pretty much given up on using one for music. When I saw the Polk PSW-10 for $180 at CC, though, I said "what the hey" and decided to give it a try (I could always return it.) It did not integrate well with my Mirages, but when I tried it with my Polk Monitor 50s, it blended perfectly. Now I am very pleased with the overall sound (and it looks great too, having the same visual style.)
One reason I tried it is that Polk subs are not known for being very powerful (at 35 Hz and 50 watts, the PSW-10 is no exception.) Living in an apartment, this is a good thing. I do think that it enriches the sound without upsetting the neighbors.

I live in a condo so I understand about neighbours. My sub is plugged into a switched wall outlet that is suppose to have a lamp plugged into it. Before I thought to do that I would just turn the sub off after a certain hour.

You paid $180 for the PSW-10? I sold mine for $100 practically brand new (got it free with some LSi-7s). Sorry that I didn't have it around to pass that deal on to you. Congrats on the purchase though, I found it to blend well with the 7s and added just enough support. It won't rock your socks off, but it is better than no sub IMHO.

Quite alright. It was an impulse buy. As for "rocking my socks off", I really wouldn't want anything more powerful in my situation.

At my campus apartment I have a M&K K-10 sub that sounds beautiful with my Dynaudio's. 75-watt amp, 35Hz - 200Hz ± 3dB. I absolutely love it for music. It blends flawlessly (took some time, but I think I got it pretty darn good, I certainly can't tell where it takes over) and sounds beautiful. For movies it is underwhelming but does okay. They used to cost $600, but I got it though M&K's refurbished product store for 350.00. Pretty good deal, wish they still had that store!

Lucky, for the past 2 years I have lived in an Apartment and haven;t been able to really enjoy the sub. In my G/Fs apt now, her AV123 gets some decent exercise during regular hours. The lady below us is super nice and the living room is on a wall that seperates it and her bedroom, so now worries from the side neighbors.

Last time it really got some exercise was with Transformers. We watched Pirates 3 two nights ago and it was two late to crank it. I am ready to move into a house and get some real stuff (read Paradigm Studio 40s or 60s with a PB12 or SVS)

I am a bass nut but I do live in an apartment and I worry that buying a bigger sub will be useless. Undecided though....

I'm so tempted to crack the seal open, but then again I know what I want...

If you live in an apartment that subwoofer will probably do just fine. Here at school I live in an apartment and I just use the M&K because anything bigger is just too much and surely will bother neighbors.

For movies, those bass transducers are pretty cool to supplement the effect of low end.... you ever check those out?

Just get a small amp to power them that you can turn off when listening to music (they are horribly annoying for music). Something like this:

Set the crossover really low on them for movies too, like 60Hz and lower.

Yeah. Like I said, the limitations of the Polk are a good thing for me. It is about as much as I can get away with.

so I've decided to keep the sub and give it a try. I must say it certainly adds a nice missing element to my HT setup. Not the cleanest nor tightest bass sub I have experienced but good enough for my apartment. I must say I'm pretty happy with it as it manages to fill the lacking bass of the RTi12's that I have right now.

I've tested music with this sub only but it's almost 11PM so I'll have to test it out loud tomorrow and with some movie tracks. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it.

Whenever I listen to my Polks, it will be with the sub. This weekend, however, I switched back to my Mirage Omni 150s, and I think I prefer them overall. Unfortunately, they do not integrate at all well with the sub.
