T templemaners Senior Audioholic Nov 30, 2010 #5 I like those black ones much more - looks meaner. If anything, those should be the standard trim and the silver ones be optional/extra.

sholling Audioholic Ninja Nov 30, 2010 #6 I might get the black trim myself. Now if there was just a way to turn off that light in the power button. I don't mind the little lights but that big button bugs me. It's one reason I don't have one in my bedroom.

McIntosh stuff may sound great but it looks straight out of the 70's. You should hook up a reel-to-reel to that stuff. But I love the look of the silver sides on my Emotiva stuff.

The black covers actually come with black screws and I switched to them after a while I tried them out like that since the power button is nickel/chrome also, but I think it looks better with the black screws. You can see the frosted glass door and the power button glares through as it is quite bright when the unit is on. I simply put a little black plastic cover on the door so when you open the door everything looks normal, but when you close it all you see are the channel lights and a slight blue glow. I will take some new pics soon. I was actually thinking about sending the original silver ones out and getting them re-anodized red or hard anodized gray.

The light is supplied by 2/4 LEDs that make a white square pad glow to illuminate the button. If you put some electrical tape on the pad you will get no light or you can do like me and block some of the pad with tape or a sharpie to reduce the amount of light to a much softer glow. The tape of course can be removed later if you want to. Only took about 10 minutes to do after I did testing on the first component to figure out what we liked.

Mike Ronesia Junior Audioholic Dec 1, 2010 #16 AV aesthetics are never going to please everyone. Their earlier units with the big aluminum squares were terrible to me but the aluminum trim they have now is fine. Most manufactures make no attempt at aesthetics and just go with black. I give Emotiva credit for trying and also making it easy to remove if you don't like it. In the right setup it looks good but if you have a bunch of mismatched stuff then your system looks bad anyway so who cares at that point. Last edited: Dec 1, 2010

I would give them more credit if they try to save the consumers even more money by NOT putting any trims on the front panels. Actually, I SUBTRACT any credits because I think those trims are a rip-off.

Warpdrv Audioholic Ninja Dec 2, 2010 #19 I would think it would not be all that difficult to paint the original trims, which I'm sure many have done. I think the offer when buying the product to click the button for which color they prefer, silver or black would be more appropriate...
