I've been watching Newegg fairly steadily, and I'm really on the hunt for a "value" receiver. Basically I was aiming for $400 or less, but everywhere I look I really don't think theres a better value then the Pioneer 1121 for $450?

Please provide me some insight of what everyone else thinks!!

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

I'm a fan of Pioneer receivers, as my past two receivers have been Pioneers and I like them.

You said that you've been watching Newegg - have you seen their sales on the VSX-1021 for $300? They were holding those about every weekend for two-three months, and I wouldn't be surprised if they resurface. I mention it because I don't know if you've compared the two models. The 1121 does have some features that the 1021 doesn't, but only you can say if those are worth an extra $150 to you.

Preouts, THX, + Marvel QDeo Video....seems like the differences were substantial enough. Do you feel otherwise? (Yes I've been weighing these two, along with refurb Denons heavily)

I just wanted to make sure that you were aware of the 1021 and its price, and you are. :) For some people, the differences between the two are irrelevant - for others, they're critical. For example, preouts are a must for me, but some won't ever use them.

Pre-outs are always nice and they are a make or break for me recommending an AVR.

With video processing that is a depends situation. The QDeo will do video scaling but if your source is something like an HTPC with Radeon for the display they Radeon will do all the interpolating and noise reduction etc... The QDeo will simply be bypassed.

But, overall, really the bang-for-buck category...anyone think anything else compares or would be an option?

Or would it be worth it to wait for the new 2012 series?

The 521, 821, 1021 all use the same amplification section, the 1121 is a big step up.

I don't know if I would trust "Good" condition. Sounds like something was used/abused/missing stuff and got sent back to Amazon.
They do have a 30 day free return policy if the AVR doesn't even look or smell right.:D

I've bought many things from Amazon in Used-Good conditions (AVR, BD, tablets, speakers, etc). They have always looked NEW & performed like new in every way. The boxes are the only things that do not look new.:D

I just picked up a Pioneer VSX-921K for $229 US from Walmart.com. I ordered it about 2 weeks ago. About 2 days after, the price went to $249.99. Still an awesome deal for that price. Had it shipped to a store and then crossed the border to get.

I'm using this (kinda overkill) to run just a 2.1 setup in my living room. My old Yamaha RXV496 is now powering 12 ceiling speakers. I've wired up my old Denon dvd player to both the Pioneer (HDMI) and Yamaha (optical). What I really wanted to do was run my front towers in the living room on the new Pioneer from Zone B, but that strictly plays stereo only with no subwoofer capabilities. If I didn't upgrade my theatre sub, this would have worked out for me. There would have been enough speaker connects for all the ceiling speakers and the towers (plus I could have just turned off the towers if needed to with the switch).

1121

You are right....excellent deal and all the units below this one are almost identical 20lb units with only minor feature differences. The 1121 is a 30lb unit with a much better, beefier power supply. It compares to Elite units costing almost 1k. I own Yamaha and Denon, so dont have a dog in this fight. I would buy one for my 2nd system, but very deep 17" unit that wont fit on my shelf...that may be a consideration

The entry level Denons are about the same, they use the same Sherwood platform for the amp section for Denon and Pioneer. The VSX-1121 is different however.
