Its one of those enjoyable movies that I have seen after a long time.

Its based on WWI and the newly invented flying machines converted to Flying war machines. The story has a mix of everything, and when It ends, I was wondering, why did it.

The DVD (Region1, Widescreen) Picture Quality is extremely good, picture is crisp and sharp with carefully choosen locales and with all those guns firing and planes flying around, it can be used as a Demo disc also i.e. Sound Quality is also good too.(DD 5.1/DTS).

Its "inspired" from a True Story and is a must to watch.

I watched it this week, also. It was much better than I anticipated. Pretty predictable, but entertaining none the less. Well shot and decent acting. Lighting and coloring also helped give it a near century old feel. Recommended.:)

I was going to make my own comment, but you pretty much summed it up. Second the recommendation.

Flyboys is a wonderful movie, one of the best I've seen in some time. The effects are really excellent, the film is well written and full of great performances. The more I see James Defranco the more I admire him as an actor (note: he's superb in another of my recent faves, Tristan & Isholde).

Only a few years after the invention of the plane, the notions of air combat were evolving rapidly, and the ink was still wet on the skimpy book of aerial tactics. The fighting was brutal and deadly, and life expectancies were short, yet there was a romantic element of chivalry among pilots. They really believed they were the last Knights. The film captures the tension as well as the chivalry of the time.

I definately recommend this one wholeheartedly!:D

Just saw the movie, very entertaining if somewhat predictable. It's uncanny how James Franco looks like James Dean. What I did notice was that the colors red and yellow are "pushed" forward, I don't find it objectionable, but it makes for an interesting contrast with the drab natural backgrounds, notice the train flags at the station, the insignia on the uniforms, the tie clip on one of the character's father, the buttons on the uniforms. Funny how when Jean Reno asks the new cadets if they speak French everyone says no, yet at the begining of the movie the boxer is shown speaking to his manager in French (very well too), the scene where the ship Aquitania is berthed, if you notice where the water touches the hull, it doesn't look natural. Overall the PQ is very good, my understanding is that the movie was shot digitally and transfered the same. You've got to love the 'old tyme' centrifuge and machine gun simulator, these guys were the real topgunners, no 'chutes, wood airplanes covered in fabric finished in flammable dope, no self-sealing fuel tanks, unreliable engines and guns, it's amazing they lasted one flight at all (many didn't). The cg quality was good, but what caught my attention was the scene where the planes were taking off for their first mission, the planes were pristine (brand new) yet, while still flying (haven't engaged enemy yet) they seemed to have aged (cg). I'm nit picking. I liked the movie (I'm sure my wife will like it)this is what Top Gun should have been. I recommend this movie. Oh the sound, I forgot, 5.1 DS and 5.1 DTS (english only) good sound quality crisp and clear, doesn't give anything a real work out, the battle scenes in the middle are brief and the end is the most interesting with the Zep.:)

Well, Duuuhh! The current style flourescent lights were not invented untill 1926, so of course colors and lighting were different!:p Plus the fact that the ozone layer was still intact, so the sun's light was even different;)

Oh, JUST WATCH THE MOVIE!:D

A couple notes, Stratman- one of Defranco's first roles was playing James Dean, so the resemblance was noted by many. And when Reno's character asks if anyone speaks French, the boxer does raise his hand signifying he does. I also noticed some unusual color choices, but I think it was just the directors attempt at a distinctive look.

Hey Rob,
I missed him raising his hand. I like the color choices, very much in keeping with the French countryside (golds, yellows, ochres, etc.) very nice.

I was really looking forward to this movie from the first trailer I saw and fortunately it did not disappoint. At least not to much, it does take a while for the flying/action to get going but when it does the pace is pretty good. My only beef is that EVERY german fighter was a red Fokker Triplane:confused: I guess the CG department could not draw up a few Albotross' or Phiz(sp) for us. But oh well, considering how few movies are made of this period I won't complain, much.
Now how about remaking The Blue Max!!!! or Aces High or Richtoven vs Brown:D
