Just saw the movie, very entertaining if somewhat predictable. It's uncanny how James Franco looks like James Dean. What I did notice was that the colors red and yellow are "pushed" forward, I don't find it objectionable, but it makes for an interesting contrast with the drab natural backgrounds, notice the train flags at the station, the insignia on the uniforms, the tie clip on one of the character's father, the buttons on the uniforms. Funny how when Jean Reno asks the new cadets if they speak French everyone says no, yet at the begining of the movie the boxer is shown speaking to his manager in French (very well too), the scene where the ship Aquitania is berthed, if you notice where the water touches the hull, it doesn't look natural. Overall the PQ is very good, my understanding is that the movie was shot digitally and transfered the same. You've got to love the 'old tyme' centrifuge and machine gun simulator, these guys were the real topgunners, no 'chutes, wood airplanes covered in fabric finished in flammable dope, no self-sealing fuel tanks, unreliable engines and guns, it's amazing they lasted one flight at all (many didn't). The cg quality was good, but what caught my attention was the scene where the planes were taking off for their first mission, the planes were pristine (brand new) yet, while still flying (haven't engaged enemy yet) they seemed to have aged (cg). I'm nit picking. I liked the movie (I'm sure my wife will like it)this is what Top Gun should have been. I recommend this movie. Oh the sound, I forgot, 5.1 DS and 5.1 DTS (english only) good sound quality crisp and clear, doesn't give anything a real work out, the battle scenes in the middle are brief and the end is the most interesting with the Zep.
