Floorstanding speakers - 500W Handling

Looking for some new floorstanding speakers. I have 2 Emotiva XPA-1's to drive them. They output 500W at 8 Ohm and 1000W at 4 Ohms. Anyone off hand know a set of speakers that can handle this power level? I am looking for something in the 2K per pair price range.

I currently have Cerwin Vega's CLS 215's. I am ok with them but not bowled over. I also have Emotiva's Reference towers in my home theater. I orignally had those in my stereo setup. I was not too impressed with the bottom end but the mid range and highs were quite nice once the speakers were broken in. I frankly have never seen such a difference after break in.

Any suggestions?

You'll have hearing damage before you get anywhere close to using that much power unless you have a huge room and inefficient speakers. You do not have to get speakers rated at 500 W to use them. I like what they do for my 8's.

Out of curiosity, how big is the room that you want these speakers for? Unless highly inefficient and the room is a cafeteria in size, I doubt very much that you'll need to push the speakers that hard. I rather go for sound quality over power handling. Even when driving a speaker capable of handling that power, driving an amp to its limit regardless of the amp could result in clipped signals damaging one's speakers.

That's kind of like dropping a Ferrari motor into a Yugo. Your budget is a bit mismatched.

A very large room - 20x20x15 - also acoustically "live" with tile floors. Absolutely not an ideal space but my home is configured so that this is the only place to put it.

Thats a big room but I still don't think you'll end gettting even half way of the power of your amps with speakers that have a sensitivity of 85db or higher.

If the spousal unit will allow it, you may want to treat the room acousticlly with some area rugs, over stuffed furniture etc. Any little thing helps. :)

If it is an acoustically live room, what's the point of getting expensive speakers? The detail will get washed out in sound reflections. I would look into getting acoustic dampening treatments for the room with some of that money.

I am going to reopen this thread in the appropriate forum and see what options I might have in room treatments. Thanks everyone for assisting. Much appreciated.
