Floor Standing Speaker Reccomendations for $1k or Less

I am looking to get started with a basic but good-sounding 5.1 Home Theater/music listening setup. I recently purchased a Yamaha rx-v385 and have a polk psw110 sub. Since I only wanted a 5.1 setup, I didn't want to spend the extra money on a receiver with more channels but figured the rx-v385 is a decent first crack at an AVR.

This leads me to my next concern, what speakers would anyone recommend given the above avr and sub? I have a $1k budget for the pair. My room size is fairly small and I will mostly be listening to rock/alternative music, as well as movies/home theater.

I originally had my eyes on the Polk Rti A7's for a while. My main concerns come from what I read on many of these forums:

1) They can be harsh in the high end for music (other than classical, jazz and acoustic) -- I am someone that listens to a lot of rock/alternative.

2) They are "power hungry".

Considering my AVR isn't the most powerful unit and does not have preouts, these speakers may not be the best option.

I would really appreciate some honest feedback on reccomendations for this situation.

Thank you

These are definitely on many people’s short list. @danzilla has some iirc!

How small exactly is the room? If it’s pretty small I might recommend you return the Polk and get a nice set of bookshelves with 2 better subs.
Like maybe this.

Add another speedwoofer for 399 and your off to a great start.
Or this 5.1 setup https://rslspeakers.com/products/cg23-5-1-home-theater-speaker-system/
Then you can add the 2nd sub when you get a chance.

These RBH towers are a great value at 549ea also, but it will depend on room size and how far away the LP(listening position) is.

The JBL S590 has been on sale occasionally in the neighborhood of $900 the pair delivered. I can recommend as I own a pair (and got for $900 the pair)
