Does anyone know if a resonance problem will be created in the 2-3" air gap between a basement wall comprised of 8" block walls covered in styrofoam insulation, 2x4 firring and sheet rock and a fully isolated/floating RSIC-1interior wall which will have 2 layers of sheet rock sealed with green glue etc..?

Also, if I wanted to wall mount side and surround speakers to the interior walls of a fully isolated RSIC-1 room and did not want to screw into studs and undermine the isolation of the walls what do i do? Should I simply green glue 1' x 1' x 3/4" plywood to the back side of the dual sheet rock layers (in between the studs) and then simply attach my speaker brackets to the plywood??

To avoid any resonance issues with ANY wall system, make sure the stud cavities are insulated with fiberglass, cotton, or mineral wool. Styrofoam against the wall is OK from a heat transfer perspective but does zero for acoustical value and cavity damping.

If you're going to mount surround speakers, it's best to either:

- place another hat channel track where you need to attach them.

- use an attachment method that does not go into a stud but rather is just supported by drywall (not generally recommended unless you're doing multiples or the speakers are really small as the vibrations from the drivers can loosen/crack drywall).
