I have a Technics system, a FULL Technics system. But I have no idea what to do anymore. I came home one night, and my stereo was on in my room. I smelled something burning and i knew right away that it was my system. I went to see what was going on, my volume was at the highest level, all my speakers and subs were blown but the center ones and one little tweeter. Ever since then Ive been wanting to get it fixed with better and stronger equipment. one of my subs is blown for sure because i checked the ohms and its flat zero. Another one of my subs is making a very annoying distorted sound when ever it vibrates and no matter what i do, i just cant get it to stop. I recently bought 2 10" sony subwoofers, 1100W peak power(whatever that means?) I need to know what to do from this point on. I am very lost, and have no clue on what to do. If someone could tell me step by step how to fix this, you will be my best friend forever!!! Ill have pics up of my setup, and what happened to it. Also my connections for my subs are different than what my old ones had. So ill have pics on that too. My dad is an electrical engineer and he doesnt even want to help me on this!!! I have no idea what to do anymore. Im very good with computers and mechanical stuff, but when it comes to stereos and wiring, i am completely lost.

In my honest opinion I really think you need a new receiver and new speakers. If your old technics are blown then this is your chance to get some new speakers. I am not sure if this is in your budget but thats my 2 cents.....

that's the thing, not many people have a technics setup. All I'm missing is the equilizer. And u got my full setup for free. I don't know where to get 2 2.5in tweeters and 2 3.5in mids. Bestbuy has the two tweeters and they're infinity but it's 80 bucks!!! Also I don't want to underpower my subs or speakers. So basically I'm starting from scratch. Do you know any affordable recievers and speakers/subs that would work for my problem? My old subs used to shake stuff off my shelfs from how hard they pounded. I want something like that again. Remember this is for my bedroom. It's 20x18x8 so it's a decent size room. I have 2 towers for my setup that's taller than my waist so they're big. And they have 2 small ports at the bottom of each of them. If I wasn't on my iphone then I would have put up the pics. One of my subs is shorted cuz theyres no resistance(ohms), and the other two speakers have ripped cones. My center speakers work fine for some odd reason and everything else is pretty much scrap. I'm new to the audio world so I need all the help I can get. If you have any sites I can look at that would be very appreciated!!

Seriously, I have no life.
I agree with Jamie. That rig is not worth the trouble of fixing. How did the volume get cranked anyway? Sounds as if you might have some boys suffering the neurotoxic effects of testosterone. It certainly would not be worth paying to have it fixed. If you wanted to recone all those drivers, I doubt you could get the parts. With Far Eastern stuff you just about never can.

I bet the receiver is fried as well if it got hot enough to smell.

My advice: - plan out a good system and save for it.

If you want to develop DIY skills, you would be much better off leaning to build your speakers.

If you can get recone kits the correct adhesives and shims for all those blown drivers I will try and talk you through it, but you will have your work cut out, and at the end of your work it will be no better than what you started with. There is a lot better around, and you will get a better investment starting from scratch.

Why did you choose those Sony Subs, and start of with them as the first replacements in the system?

I really don't want to do anything just in the case that I eff things up even more. I would love to get a good setup but I got a 67 fastback on the way and I would much rather put a good system in that. I have an altec landing system for my computer that I use all the time, so I can live with that. I just wanted to see if there is any way that I can somehow get new subs and speakers to work with the aged system that I have. Personally I have no problem getting a new reciever, I just don't know which one!! Like I said before, I don't want to underpower my subs and speakers and have to go through this again. And I chose Sony subs because my cousin has them in his tc, and they sound clean and hit hard for their price and build. Im gonna get a pro setup in my stang cuz my friend has a shop in downtown Chicago. So if anyone has any more ideas or opinions feel free to say so.

If thats the case, then all i really need is a new receiver and speakers for my towers. my cd changer, tape player, and tuner work perfectly fine. i opened up my receiver to see if my drivers were blown, but i have no clue with what they look like. and nothing seems to be blown or burnt inside of it. what is a decent receiver, and what speakers should i use? actually what info do you guys need in order for you guys to come up with equipment for me to use? i think itll work better that way
