Fixing an Audio Delay

My current hookup is everything to my TV, then I have my TV's output to the surround sound, but I have an incredibly obnoxious delay. I've tried using the a/v sync on my TV, but that doesn't seem to help. Can anyone help? I've got a huge TV, blue ray player, and HD cable box and I can't watch any of it without watching all the people's lips.

Welcome to the forum!

Some receivers can help with that. What are the model numbers of your receiver (or surround sound system) and TV? Knowing that, we can look up information on them.

I've skimmed through the manuals for those two components, and I have some questions for you.

  1. What is lagging - the audio or the video?
  2. You've tried all of the A/V sync settings (Off,1,2,3) on the TV?
  3. What is the model number for your blu-ray player? I can look this up, but do you know if it has an A/V sync setting on it?
  4. Do you know if the cable box has an A/V sync setting?
  5. I don't think this would matter unless you were playing DVDs on the Samsung HT-Z510, but do you have the A/V sync on that unit set to anything?

Adam, I'm wondering about the fact that he has the TV's audio 'output' going to the receiver.
Sounds funky.....with funky being a technical term.

That TV has an optical digital audio output. His surround sound system (a HTIB) has an optical digital audio input. It only has one digital input, though, so routing everything through the HTIB isn't optimal. It can be done if the lip-sync issue can't be fixed, but it will require an external switch/combiner or the use of two-channel analog inputs.

  4. Do you know if the cable box has an A/V sync setting?I checked, it doesn't

No, I don't.

Thanks again for your help

I've got a Toshiba 52LX177 connected with a PS3 and HD DVR through my Yamaha 863. The lip-sync was insane! I tried using the delay on the Rcvr and on the tv. It turns out the TV needed a firmware update as it was common problem for this model. Blu-rays are great now, but the DVR is a tiny bit off.
Maybe your TV needs a firmware update?
