By not having a tuner housed in the same chassis, a manufacturer can spend/fit more putting bigger transformers and better wiring and things like that. Integrateds are a great way to go if you don't have a lot to spend, and you can still get a separate tuner later. Some even think they're better than true separates because there's less in the signal path, no cables between units and stuff like that. However, separates offer more flexibility in that you can use different brands, multiple amps and upgrade more easily. I would only purchase separates if I had lots to spend on something decent.</font>
