Hi,

First time poster trying to set up first ever home theater set up. I'll be using my set up to watch films and the big TV shows like Game of Thrones.

I purchased the following set up new online below;
Projector: Optoma HD143X
AV Receiver: Marantz NR1508 AV Receiver
Speakers: Harman Kardon HKTS 9 x2 sets

I purchased a set of Harman Kardon speaker stands second-hand on Ebay and when I picked them the stands included all 5 speakers, which the guy had forgotten to list. So I now have two sets of the Harman Kardon speakers. I wanted to know if it was worth trying to use 7 speakers, and try hooking them up to my receiver as a 7.1 setup. Or should I just resell the 2nd hand speakers? Looking at the inputs there isn't space for 5 speakers but wondered if there a splitter or rewire that maybe worth doing? The room itself is 5 meters wide and 8 meters long, with a 3 meter screen sitting in the middle of one end of the 5 meter wall.

I thought it was worth asking people in the know before I started flipping floorboards for cabling! Any advice you guys can give about the set up would be great!

Thanks in advance

Dan

No you cant use more than 5.1 with that avr. You can pick up a 7 channel avr in clearance or certified refurb for under $600.

That receiver can only do a 5 channel system. It does not have pre outs for surrounds so doubling the surrounds could not be done in any propper way. I would just enjoy your new system. Sell the other speakers or setup a bedroom system or something.

Thanks guys for your input, I thought it might be a case of sticking with Plan A and selling the second set of speakers...
