First speaker set up

I saw the boxing day deals at Futureshop and decided to delve into the world of surround sound, so here I am with the following components:

Pioneer 7.2 Channel Network Receiver (VSX-1326-K) ($750)
Klipsch RC-62 Center Speaker ($350)
Polk Audio Monitor 70 ($350 for the pair)
Klipsch Synergy Sub 12 ($300)
JBL Loft 40 Bookshelf Speakers ($100 for the pair)
Polk Audio RTi12 ($350, only got one because futureshop messed up. Should I just return it?)


*I also got a polk audio psw505 for $300, but I think it is inferior to the Klipsch after listening to both.

I am not too sure which are quality speakers vs bad ones. I am considering upgrading my subwoofer to the Rhythmik FV12. For reference my media room is 11' x 19' x 8'. The only door in the room is unfortunately a glass french door, the rest is sealed by walls. I have considered putting a curtain over it, do you believe this would make a difference? I believe I only need one sub for a room like this. My home theater is only setup to host about 4-5 people at a time, and I believe the null zones would be few and far between in a room this size.

Do you believe the FV12 would make a big difference to me? This room is used 40% for SD cable TV, 35% Gaming, 15% Movies (blu ray), and 10% for music. Are there any obvious fallacies in my speaker setup? The FV12 is $200 more than my current sub, so I am only looking to shell out an additional $300-$500 on my set up.

All suggestions are welcome.

First question is why did you get a Klipsch center with Polk LRs? And why did you get yet another speaker brand for the surrounds?

They're not going sound anything a like. Of course that may or may not bother you.

Second, compared to the rest of your system you probably over spent on the AVR, but that of course is your choice and once you have it it can be used in the future with anything else you might get.

IMO based solely on forum reviews you would be better off going for the FV12 or an SVS, HSU, Epik etc... that fits your spending limits.

And IMO as to the "free" RTi12, if you keep it without contacting the seller and seeing if they want it back, it's theft. They might just tell you to keep it rather than paying the return shipping. But you need to contact them to find out.

You really need to match the center and L&R fronts. If I were you I'd either return the Klipsch center and replace it with a Polk CS2 center, or return the Polk Model 70s and replace them with Klipsch RF-62 towers or RB-61 bookshelves. That way the front three are all matched with the same brand and product line.

Neither Polk or Klipsch would be my first choice in subwoofers but I'm not up on what's available in your area.

I know its a good idea to get a 2nd or even 3rd opinion when you get a diagnosis from th Dr. But it seems that in this case, a diagnosis was given (& a good one at that) but he came back for a 2nd opinion at the same "Dr."

The OP needs to set everything up, use MCACC, listen carefully & decide which speakers sound the best to him. Then build the system around those & return the others. Both of those subs should definately be returned in exchange for the Rythmik FV12.

It's not stealing. If anyone carried out a fraudulent act, it is them. I ordered 2 rti12's for $350. They get back to me saying it was a mistake and I only get one.

I made sure to do my homework before I started a thread, and that is why I brought up the FV12. I have heard that it is a great sub at the price point.

It is very hard to get speakers auditioned in Canada, so trying them out is more or less out of the question. What are some good center/front/rear speakers that have good synergy together. Can't spend more than $1500 on those components. Thanks

Surround Setup

I agree with other post on getting at least the front and center speakers of the same brand. Testing them at home is of little use unless you are going to move them around a lot. Second the surround role of your current speakers are all different so comparison is a mute point. You did your homework to come on the forum, but not for selecting your system. If it was me, I would buy the whole setup of Klipsch or Polk. The sub is your choice. You did well on the avr. Buying cheap avr's will not help your system and the room correction program in the avr is a key feature to make your system sound good. Great speaker and a cheap avr with bad room correction leads to a mediocre system. That is why you see so many people needing amp and other equipment to improve their system. Spend you money wisely!

I have looked into those speakers, and they seem to be a bit below the price range I was looking for in my set up. I believe they have higher series, but I am not aware of the price/performance points. I have looked at the Energy speakers and have come to like them.

Either 2 CF-70's with a CC-10 --- $1400
or
2 V-6.2 with a V-5.2 --- $1350

I am confused why there are two series at similar price points in the same company. Are there any similar combos of floorstands and center speaker at the same sub $1500 price point? Could you also list the best combo at $1000? Lastly, how would you compare the Infinity Primus 363/351 with the aforementioned combos?Thanks in advance.

I also saw the Dali Zensor 7 and Zensor Vokal combo for $1600. I have read that it is a reputable brand. How are the speakers?

I have looked into those speakers, and they seem to be a bit below the price range I was looking for in my set up.

Looking into something, is not hearing - and do not try to guess on the sound
based on current pricing. If you can not audition or decide - then flip a coin.

I already pulled the trigger on the FV12 for my sub. I have a 7.2 receiver, but I don't believe I need a second sub. I have a pair of Polk Audio RTi12's on the way which I snagged for an amazing $100 each. I have the Polk Audio Monitor 70's currently running as my front (and only) speakers. Now I have looked into the Infinity Primus series as mentioned above, and I am torn on my options.

It would be hard to return the Monitor 70's, but it would be possible. Do you suggest I sell my rti12's for $1000 also? The brands I am looking at are KEF Q700, Infinity Primus, EMP e55ti. Are there any others in the sub $100 a pair range that you have liked? Would you say the jump from the Infinity Primus to Q700 in SQ is that noticeable?

Lastly, if I didn't sell my RTi12's, where should I put them? I'm not sure what center speaker pairs with it if I were to put it in the front, and I feel its potential wouldn't be heard if I were to use them as surrounds. Any input? Much appreciated!

Lastly, are Oppo blu ray players worth it? I can't understand what the $500 bdp 93 has over a regular sony blu ray player. Similarly, why is the bdp 95 priced at $1000? Are the DAC chips really that expensive/important?
