"First New Post" Question

I have two questions.

One: If I have to go away from my computer while reading "new posts" when I return the "go to first new post" thingie is gone and I have to scroll through all the posts of each thread. The same thing happens if I spend a fair amount of time responding to a post. Is there a work around or am I missing something?

Two: After responding to a post I have been using the browser back button to get back to the thread list. Any easier way of doing this?

Thanks, Nick

I've noticed the same thing. My guess is that the browser cookies have a short expiration time, although I haven't bothered to investigate if that is actually the case.

Since I read the forums pretty much everyday, the way I do it is click on 'New Posts' and then each thread I want to read and/or respond to I open in a new window. That way you can always go back to the original list of new posts. After I'm done with all the new threads, I click new posts again until there are no more new threads I want to view. Then I use Quick Links - Mark Forums Read and I'm done.

Go into user CP, and set it so there 40 posts per page.

Then get a decent keyboard/mouse with each having a scroll wheel.

Scroll like crazy!

Don't use the back button, click on the forum that you are browsing in itself, up at the top in the "header" below the banner, and it will show you a current view of the forum not the cached view. So in this thread for example, you would respond and then click on "site suggestions and feeback".

Some of the cookies are definitely set to a quick expire because the site used to remember me, and now it only remembers me for about an hour or so, even if I click remember me.

It won't remember you if you clean out your Temp. internet files. When you do that, you have to redo the "remember me" thing.

This is the only site I have that problem with. I checked, and it was actually blocked last week, but I fixed that and it still seems to have that issue.

*edit somehow it got blocked again....working now.

If I let Norton clean out my cookies, I still get auto login here at OH fine, but not at AVS forum. Odd.
