Sup all, been reading a lot the past few days on here and avsforums. The Wife and I just purchased our first home, renovating the whole house. My Panasonic Viera 60 Plasma TV speakers are not cutting it in the new living room
16'x14' with 8' ceilings.

I just purchased a set of energy take classic 5.0 speakers, should be here on monday.

Looking at a sub/receiver options now

I am looking at the BIC RTR-EV1200

As for the receiver I am lost.. Im only looking for a 5.1 setup and I like the idea of a self calibrating system like audyssy but not sure what to get. I don't need any airplay or streaming options. My xbox/mk808 can do all of that.. the denons from accessories4less.com seem very reasonable but I am open to any brand.. looking to stay under 300 on the receiver

If the sub isnt a good match for my energy speakers what would you recomend, I have Amazon prime so I prefer to shop there for the expedited shipping but the best deal will prevail, all and any input/direction on my setup is greatly appreciated.

Denon or Marantz from AC4L would do just fine.

If you are going to get a BIC, just get the F12 or the PL200. You don't need to "match" a sub to your speakers, however since you got satellite speakers, you will need a sub that plays better higher up where it blends to them. What is the actual budget for the sub?

I'd recommend this: STF-2 Subwoofer

Your choices for receivers are almost limitless. You have a modestly sized room. You aren't likely to use more than 20 watts per channel since you are going to install a subwoofer. You can save some bucks on the receiver. In my bedroom system I recently installed a Pioneer bottom of the line AVR. It is an 80 watts per channel, 5.1 system that I'm using with just two channels. It has the Audyssey setup or whatever Pioneer calls it. It looks nice and is more than adequate to deal with our 22X14' bedroom. That or something like it would be just dandy, I think.

NAD, Marantz, Yamaha all make fine products. I am currently using a NAD 748. I love the sound. It also has something that I would recommend-pre outs. These allow you to add an external amp at a later time if you so desire. As always, trust your ears.
Good listening!

I Just ordered a Onkyo TX-NR616. 7.2 more power than I need for now Audyssey and THX Certified.

I was reading about this Acoustic Audio sub on another thread. The frequency range and power seem like a great deal at $200

Or staying with BIC and the bash amplifier?

Onkyo is a fine choice. As far as the sub is concened, 200 bux is not a kings ranson so if it sounds good to you, then go for it. After all it your ears that that matter!
Good listening

Ha, I fully understand that.. With all the reno's going on in the house, this is just a starting point. eventually I will budget for a more hifi setup, I did not like the HTIB offerings I heard so I am trying to piece together my own system..
