Hi all. Help me make a good decision please. I’m upgrading my receiver and tv. I’ve got the tv but not sure about what receiver. I’m upgrading from a Denon 4308ci. The specs are 140w per channel. At the time this was a high end receiver. I don’t have the budget to go that high end this time. I’m looking at the Marantz sr6013 and the Denon x3500h.

I’m gonna run a 5.1.2 setup. I have Martin Logan vistas for the three front channels. Grotto subwoofer , definitive audio rear bookshelf size and 2 ceiling height speakers.

the power rating on the Marantz is 105w per channel. Will I be disappointed or perhaps the newer receivers are more efficient so less power required? Thanks for any input.

Your 4038ci pre-dates when AVR manufacturers started planning that the AVR would be obsolete in 8-12 years!
That you are upgrading now kind of confirms their decision!
I'm not sure what advice to give you on the AVR's you are considering, but wanted to let you know that from he standpoint of having a great power section, you are probably in for a down-grade!
As for features, it will be a clear upgrade.
Generally, I would say if you get any of the modern AVR's just make sure they have pre-amp outputs for at least the front three channels so you can use external amps. I also have a pair of Vistas and don't think you'll have a problem driving them with the AVR's you propose, but I use mine in the bedroom, so don't really open them up too much and don't do HT on them at all - don't have a TV in there.

No, the new avrs you're considering have lesser amp sections than your current one, altho only 1-2 dB different...you would need something higher up in the D&M avrs to get closer to what you have....the new stuff still is bound by normal ratings....if you change to higher sensitivity speakers that might be more a leveling for lesser amp output.

It depends the power requirement of your speakers.

It will be a downgrade on the Amp section. But I bet you probably won't notice the difference in SQ.

Since these AVRs do have pre-outs for external amps, you can always add more amps if your speakers require. But I doubt they will require more power.
