I just finally moved into an apartment of my own, so I'm working on setting up my first HT setup. The room is only 11x14, and honestly not the best of layouts.

Basically for a $250 price range, do you think this system is decent? http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/speakers/NSBP4500.htm

I would have had more, but after buying a kitchen table, couch, TV, etc etc...I'm a wee bit broke

and no...my beloved BR-1s are not going there...those stay in my bedroom...just because I went HT doesnt mean I'm ditching my 2-channel stuff :)

Not having heard it, I'd say it should keep you fairly satisfied on the HT front for some time. You may or may not want a larger sub at some point but you could always look at this as your first upgrade.

You'll soon find out that smaller but more speakers plus a subwoofer can provide quite an enjoyable HT experience. It may not do for pure music but that's another issue entirely.

When the time comes down the road to marry the two systems, shop for speakers that do music well first. When you find these, the HT enjoyment will follow suite. All too often people shop for HT speakers and are dissapointed when the music half of the equation fails.

Good adivce, I'll keep it in mind.

I'm only going to be using it for 5.1 right now since I'm using an old receiver I had that basically collected dust.

As far as the sub, I have a slightly larger Yamaha sub that's been collecting dust as well.

As far as music, that's what my bedroom system is for :)

I've heard this system several times. For an entry-level system, it's actually quite good.
