Finally a near perfect HTPC motherboard

Check out a review of the new AMD 780G based mainboard from Gigabyte:

1. Passively cooled
2. Integrated Radeon 2400 video card with 1080P decode built in!
3. Put on an Athlon X2 4850e at only 45 Watts for $89

You could run a fan less setup with this!

Good review but 14 pages is a bit much for me today. It looks like that the graphic they show that it has 2 independent display controllers. One of my biggest gripes was that when I was using a touch screen and my main display I could not run independent resolutions on each monitor. You can with extend mode but not clone mode with two different resolutions. I wonder if this architecture would allow that?

Anyway good read and thanks for the link.

I'd prefer the up and coming G45 chipset.

Intel currently has nothing that will even come close the the energy efficiency of this mainboard and cpu combo.

The G45 would have to provide some pretty marked improvements for the HTPC crowd. I don't see Intel outclassing the Radeon 2400 when it comes to video display capability or upscaling quality.

What would the G45 do BETTER for a HTPC setup?

Yep, that was a good read. Perhaps I too will pick some parts up and retire my old work machine.

Mmm... silent.
