Just when you thought the high def DVD war had reached new levels of absurdity, well sit down, here's something that will make you head hurt. New Medium Enterprises (NME) recentely briefed the press and dealers at CEDIA Expo, they're introducing a new format into the fray, called HD VMD (high defenition versatile multilayer disc), it's based on new hardware developed by NME, it's a low cost red-laser based player to be sold through their site, Amazon and PC Rush. The player will sport 1080p DVD up-conversion, native HD output of 1080p/24fps, it will support hdmi 1.3 and will carry an msrp of 199.99 dollars (ML-777) for their top line model. They plan to license their technology to CE manufacturers "to help drive the market for the fledgling format" WHAT!!!! If you want to read more of this absurdity here's a link where I found the story: http://twice.com/article/CA647898.html?industryid=23099

You can stop laughing, now.
