Fidek Surround system - NEED HELP!

Hey all.

I am new to this forum, and i am in search of information.

I just bought a set of "Fidek" speakers and amp from a friend. Apparently this comes from Hong Kong, I have been told that they were high-end systems but that they are only distributed in North America by a handful of distributors. It is very hard to get information on this brand of products, and was wondering if you had any information on Fidek products or if you know any distributor that sells Fidek products.

I am still wondering if it's a good brand or not, and if there are any "user manuals" out there for the amp and speakers cause I don't think I connected them properly...i am very new to this. Here is what I got:

Amplifier: Fidek FKV-802R Pro-Logic Surround Amplifier
Surround Speaker set: Fidek Thunder 3 Center Channel FTS-403 (center), and (2x) Thunder 3 Surround FTS-505 speakers (back)
Font Speakers: (2x) Fidek FSH-4801GE Hi-Fi Speaker System
Subwoofer: Fidek FSH-12 AI

The subwoofer is huge and has a built-in amplifier. I can barely raise the volume so much it's loud. Seems to me that there is not enough bass coming out and too much higher pitched sounds. I can't see a proper "subwoofer" plug on the amp, so i plugged it on one of the "OUT" RCA plugs. Geez, i'm not even sure i plugged all of this properly... As well, there are different volume controls ("surround", "center", "main" and also one on the subwoofer), and i have no idea how to set those up so it sounds good when watching a movie or so.

Anyways, any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks!

Do you live in the US, Asia, Europe, Oceania, SA, or other?

I did not think these were exported from SE Asia. I've seen them when I worked in Jakarta (not the HT stuff, just stereos and speakers, personnaly, I thought they looked like junk - though I've never heard them and could be much better then they look), and they were popular with the masses - much like HTIB is here. But the discerning ear still bought the same stuff we do, Denon, Yamaha, etc..

Thanks for your reply. I did email them, just thought i'd try my luck here as well. I live in Canada, and they are coming from a distributor located in Canada. The 5 speaker, sub and amp set were priced at 3,000$ so i guess Fidek must have different lines of products/quality.

As far as looks is concerned, they look pretty neat to me. Thing is i don't know much about systems like those, so it's hard for me to evaluate performance. All i know is that myu living room is a big open area, and that my previous speakers provided like half of the bass i got with this set.

Thanks for your help!

As per your subwoofer, it sounds like the crossover is set to high. It should have some sort of adjustment on the back to set the maximum frequency it will play. You want start at 80Hz or 100Hz and fool around with it from there.

I would say that you definitely don't have the subwoofer plugged in right. You don't want to plug it into just an "out", because the receiver will not control the LFE to that output, and the crossover settings won't be set for that output either. If there is no sub pre-out rca connector on your amp, does your subwoofer have inputs and outputs for your front speakers to be wired in to let your subwoofers crossover filter handle the LFE?

Ok thanks a lot for your replies!

Mark I think I understand what you are saying, but just to be sure here is what I got as far as connectors are concerned:

On the subwoofer: One RCA IN (the red and white)

On the two front speakers: There are four RCA connectors here, which seem somehow to be connected to each other through a metal plate. It's like if there was two "IN" and two "OUT", but that both "IN" are connected with a metal plate, and so are both "OUT" plugs.

I think what you meant is that there could be an "OUT" on my sub in order to plug my front speakers, but it seems like it's the opposite somehow. Mark to make things simpler, is there any way I could either post or email you digital pictures of my connectors to help out?

Thanks a million!

Cyclop,
I think there is a way of posting photo's, but I'm not sure how. Maybe one of the Mediators or administators will help us... Anyways, the four posts on your Front's are for biamping. If you want to, you can remove that "jumper" metal plate from between the 2 blacks, and the one from between the 2 reds, and run separate wires to drive your woofers and tweeters. They come from the same output on your amp, but it gives you more wire for more current from the amp. I have tried it, but really couldn't notice much improvement myself.

Cyclop,

Are you sure you got the model number of your amp right? I did a google on it, and the only thing that came up was this post impressively...

Is this an old system? I can't find any info on any part of your system...

Ok, to post pictures, click on "Post Reply" button at the top or bottom of the Thread, not the "quick reply" at the end of each post. After Clicking on "Post Reply", type your text, then scroll down to "additional options" and click on "manage attachments" button. This opens a new window, where you can browse your files, and download a file to the website. They are limited to 100KB. So set your camera to the closest you can get to 100K or edit them with software down to 100k before loading them, to get them close to the max size to show me what you have.

This is pretty fun...

Thanks Mark, sorry could not be on the web earlier to answer your posts... I took the pictures with my camera, now I just need to download them to my PC and I will send them over. The models are right, taken straight from the back of the boxes. Amazing isn't it how these things seem to only exist in my living room? hehe

Thanks a lot for your help, i appreciate...i'll post the pictures soon.

Ok Mark, here are the pictures. They were very large, and I resized them with Photoshop. If they are too small to actually see let me know and I will post them on my website and post the link here for the pictures.

Thanks!

If these are $3000 in canada the importer has a very extravagant sense of humour. $300 is a better bet. they dont sound good because they arent and the equipment is near the bottom of the budget league quality wise. Buy some decent used AV stuff of ebay, sony, marantz, pioneer, denon, yamaha. its not rocket science, you cant make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
