Fiber Optic digital audio cable same as digital optic cable?

I needed digital optic cables, and bought "Fiber optic" digital cables.

My problem is I don't have sound with my new Blu Ray disk player. I was told I needed digitla optical cables and assumed fiber optic would be fine, but even thought the cable fits, still not sound. I'll connected by HDMI with receiver, I get video but no sound. Any help would be tremendously helpful.

Are fiber optic the right cables to use to hook up my tv?

Yes, optical cables are often referred to as fiber optic cables.

If you get no sound, it is most likely a configuration issue with either the player or the receiver.
