We have just bought a new house and since moving in the speakers will work fine for about 5-8 minutes and then they start "popping" and the sound of the main unit is shut out. I have rechecked all the connections to make sure they are in correctly - any other ideas?

"the speakers" can you elaborate?

Is it a staticy popping sound? or bassy, which one?

What is all the electronics in the signal path from cd, to speaker cone.

It is the main 2 speakers - I have 6 speakers total (two surround, 2 main, one center and a sub) - it could be coming out the others as well but the 2 main ones are the loudest. It is a deep pop without any consistency in rhythm or anything like that. I have a DVD player and the TV going through the receiver as well but the wires going to the speakers come straight from the receiver to the speakers.

OK soooo,

When does this exaclty happen. IE: what are you doing when it happens? Its the receiver muted, is there anything playing? what input is it on etc etc.

At first it can be on anything we want and it is fine but after about 5-8 minutes it will start and continue no matter what you put it on. Even when you turn the receiver off it will still pop. I have checked for surge and nothing came up.

If the reciever is off, then it must be coming from the subwoofer. Give it a listen, and it if is, it can be a number of things.

1.) Bad/loose connection
2.) Power left on and sub picking up signals.
3.) something physically in the subwoofer (most likely not, but one guy had a rat in his:eek: )

Thats what I can think of off the top of my head.
Do you turn your subwoofer off, or does it have auto on/off?

If you use auto, check to see if it will turn off after your receiver is shut down. Give it a couple mins and it should turn off. If not, theres your problem, and I suggest getting it looked at, hopefully there is still a warrenty.

EDIT: It can also be the cord, I had a cord that would make contact after everything was off, or not being used, and it would make the sub blare you 60 tones and spirts.
EDIT 2: Do your mains have powered subwoofers in them? Or are they powered?
