Feedback on Plasma Burn In

Gentlemen:

I purchased a Pioneer Elite PRO HD-1130 in the middle of October. Over the past few days, I noticed a verticle stripe running down about 6 inches from either side of the screen. After thinking about for a minute, I realized that this was probably the result of some of the HD content not being originally filmed/processed in widescreen.

I also noticed that as I turned on HD programming that was filmed in widescreen and watching it for a while, or after having the set turned off for a while and turned on, those verticle lines were gone.

HOWEVER, not sure if any of you guys have ever seen ESPN HD, where ESPN has those funky sidebars on either side of the screen for HD content not provided in widescreen. After watching Sports Center for a little bit, I changed the channel, but could still see remnants of those fucnky verticle sidebars from ESPN HD.

Obviously, I concluded this is a "burn-in" effect.

I have read up somewhat on Plasma technology, and was aware of the potential issue with burn in, but for whatever reason, perhaps because it was never clarified, I always thought burn-in was a long run issue.

Is that the case? Would any of you guys care to shed some insight on the issue?

Could it be that I just have a corrupt unit, and need to replace?

Any/all feedback would be appreciated.

If it's going away it's not "burn in". It sounds like a little ghosting is taking place. That's normal to some degree. If you've calibrated the set, there should be no harm whatsoever....if you haven't, it would be advisable to do so promptly (at least turn down the brightness). As the display gets broken in, the ghosting should become less apparant (100+ hours or so).
