Hello I would like some feedback on a new system for my wife. She wants to have a new surround sound system for main room and also drive sound for in ceiling speakers. I am a lucky guy!

My plan:

Onkyo NR5009 will be connected to TV and will also be connected to PC.
Onkyo PA-MC5500

Zone #1 Home theater room all hardwood floors 20ft x 20ft x 20ft

Speakers: Pair Polk Audio RTi A9s front
single Center Polk Audio CSi A6
Surrounds pair Polk Audio FXi A6
Sub Polk Audio DSW Pro 660

Zone #2 kitchen and dining room in ceiling speakers to be added later use existing speakers 2 speakers in ceiling for each room

Zone #3 Outside Sound Envelope to cover 100 ft x 75 ft with new powered outdoor speakers ( done this coming spring )

I am looking for feedback on this to get opinions on if this will give me a good base system for a home theater and enough power to drive the Zone 2 and Zone 3 areas.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

This will be my xmas gift to my wife and I want her to be very happy!

Thanks in advance,
Tom

Hi Tom and welcome to the forum.

Your receiver choice look good and that should be a very nice gift. I'm not very familiar with the amp and at around 1700 for nine channels it seems like a decent product. Are you planning on using the external amp for the theater and the internal amps assigned to the other zones?

How do you plan on controlling everything? I have a fairly complex multizone system and if I did not have a good control system my wife would be very annoyed.

Any particular reason you going with Polk? I think you can do better in most situations. And their subs are not very good IMO.

SVS, Epik, Elemental Designs, and HSU all make better subs than polk.
The PC12-NSD is only 150 more and way better.

Infinity, Energy, Aperion, SVS, and KEF would all be better directions for speakers IMO.

My recommended setup is Infinity Primus 362s

for the fronts 152s for the surrounds

and SVS subshttp://svsound.com/subwoofers/cylinder/pc12-nsd?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=18&category_id=8

www.accessories4less.com is the cheapest place for Onkyo receivers.

I would get a cheaper receiver the Onkyo NR809
http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKTXNR809/Onkyo-TX-NR809-7.2-Channel-Network-A/V-Receiver/1.html
and put the money into better subs.

Great advice.

I want to ensure that the amp can power the zone #1 and zone #3.

What else would be recommended?

As you can tell I am a newb.

Thank you,
Tom
