Recently I have been drinking a lot of beer . Of course, being a crazy foodie, I drink nice beer. Here are some of the best in show. For those who can't tell, I have been on a large hop kick...so those who like water in their beer need not apply...

My current all around favorite: Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA

This beer is fairly hoppy, but goes down smooth and goes great with anything. At $9 a six pack it is hard to beat and my standby beer that is always in the house. If you want to up the hops go for the 90 minute or 120 minute. Both are great, but more in your face.

Really interesting beers: Dogfish Head Midas touch

Well, I have yet to have a bad beer from dogfish head. What makes this one so interesting is that it is based on a recipe found in King Midas's tomb, the oldest fermented recipe known to man. Not beer of the typical sorts, but delicious. The saffron and fruit really come through, I like it as dessert, but it goes great with pasta.

Another:
Old Speckled Hen Ale

This was the most interesting ale I have ever had. Smells a little funky and tastes it too. Very smooth with a complex flavor profile. Takes a whole beer to really 'understand'. A good choice if you want something smooth and very different.

Last fun beer and I have nothing to say about it because the company does a good enough job. Their IPA is good and so is their port. I haven't had anything else.

Currently drinking: Flying Dog Double Dog Double Pale Ale

Not a beginners beer (is any IPA?). High alcohol and high IBU so it is very bitter, but fruity and delicious. Not as good as a 90 minute as far as I am concerned, but different enough to have the need for both :D. Definitely a beer for a spicy meal.

Anyone have some good beer suggestions? I'm probably not listening ;).

I am drinking in the studio right now as well. I am having a Samual Smith organic ale. It is really good. And there is also some SS Nut Brown ale in the fridge as well. I love a really good beer myself Andrew. The Dogfish ales are great, I am a fan.I did a European tour this summer and had some Belgium trappist ales that were incredible. I also love Franzes Konner a small batch brew only made in Dusseldorf Germany. It is most likely my favorite all time beer..Thanks Andrew.

I only have Red Stripe left and I'm having one of those now. Blah.

I like Duval a lot, Haufbraugh (HB, I might have the spelling wrong), Dogfishhead is pretty good 90 minute ipa, Coopers is good too.

I started a thread on this a while ago, so did Buckeyefan, there should be some more recommendations in there.

Haven't had beer in a while. I miss it.

Lot of good posts in this similar thread from last year: "Beer !" Very excellent timing, Andrew. I was just about to revive that one tonight with what I'm drinking right now (see below).

My all-time favorite Belgian beer is La Chouffe. I can't buy it locally in Arizona, but my family brings me some every now and again when they visit.

I am enjoying a Harvest Moon, Blue Moon's seasonal ale for fall. Their Honey Moon from summer was also excellent. Blue Moon's regular beer reminds me of La Chouffe...not at the same level, but it'll do seeing as how I can buy it four blocks away.

Hey Andrew, you're a man after my own heart.
Here is one of my recommendations: http://www.ommegang.com/index.php?mcat=1&scat=2&yr=1
Ommegang Abbey Ale.
If stout didn't exist, this would be my favorite beer.

Regards,
Rick
Beer is amazing end of story. I haven't had that before, I will certainly need to try it.

I did the European summer thing, but ended up drinking almost all wine....I just couldn't get myself away from the amazing local wine in Budapest, Rome and Paris.

Real men make their own beer...

Brewing since 2004.
Working on it :D. Would be easier if I had something more than an apartment. Any recommendations on starting kits etc?

I used to drink Red Stripe when I was in college. Nothing like good old water beer :D.

My favorite beer of all time is Maudite, made by an excellent brewery in Quebec. http://www.unibroue.com/products/maudite.cfm

If you like a real hoppy beer, the Tankhouse ale made by Mill St. Brewery in Toronto is very good. http://millstreetbrewery.com/

There are so many good beers out there but these are a few from my home country :) that I enjoy very much:).
Added to the list. I have heard of Tankhouse before, but never seen it locally.

Blue moon is water beer :p. Just can't drink that stuff anymore. Hehehe.

Have you ever had La Chouffe? Just wondering what you thought of it. If you think that's water, then you and I would never fight over the last six pack at the store. :)

I was surprised how many people were against my choice to stop.

I'm with ya. I only drink max one or two beers, generally only one. A lot of days none. I like it, and I have to say its been a little lonely since I've stopped drinking much. It changes your friends.

My friends aren't like that. Some old ones are, and I stopped hanging out with them because of that, and the fact that they're losers. Still have that High School mentality. It's more, I was getting sick from very little beer, and I lost the signs of getting too drunk, I would just go from buzzed to full brown no memory. Didn't want to act like a jackass (which is what happens when you're drunk, I don't care what anyone tells you) so I decided to stop. I really enjoy the taste of beer too, I can have like 2 now before I get sick.

I enjoy a beer or two at night. Not every night, but sometimes. I haven't been drunk in probably 10 years now. I just get too tired too fast anymore. Well, that and I have no desire to get drunk. I enjoyed it when I was around a bunch of friends or my brothers who were doing it, but that's in the past for me. We're all grown up and too darn responsible now...

For me it's not about getting drunk. I just enjoy beer, wine and spirits. I typically have a drink or two a day...then again I am going to be visiting Pdawg again soon. That is like a drink or two a half hour . Now if I happen to be drinking and get a buzz or more so sad :p.

Have you ever had La Chouffe? Just wondering what you thought of it. If you think that's water, then you and I would never fight over the last six pack at the store. :)
Never had it, but from what I have read it sounds like a nice drinking beer. I have heard it is pretty hoppy. Yum! Next time I am at the store I will get some. Care to share a picture of the bottle to make sure I get the right stuff?

Andrew, it looks like the label has changed a bit since I had some early on in the year. La Chouffe is third from the left (yeah, I know that you can read the labels :)). La Chouffe is their golden ale.

I definitely enjoy the Dogfish Head 60 and 90 minute varieties.

If you like Arrogant Bastard, try their regular "Stone IPA". Very nice.

My all around favorite, after having torn through lots of different IPAs is O'Dell's IPA, brewed in Ft. Collins, Colorado. It's just the best one for me.

Another contender is Mendocino Brewing's "White Hawk".

I love IPAs.

You should try the 120 minute if you can find it. Steep price at $10 a 12 ounce bottle, but it is a serious IPA worth a shot once. There is a new batch coming out soon so if you have a place to get it you should ask.

Arrogant Bastard's Stone IPA is very nice. I will have to try the O'Dell though, never had it before.

The first time I had an IPA I was a wheat beer drinker. One sip and I was done. Now, I can't believe how much I was missing out on. IPAs have so much more flavor than most beers, but man, they can scare people away quick :).

By the way: Anyone try aging a good high alcohol beer before? Give some of that stuff a couple years in a cool dark (no light at all) place and you will be amazed what happens. It really is just like wine. The hardest part is not drinking the great beer and actually storing it!

Try St Arnold's in Houston 1pm Saturday tour

Hey If you ever get down a little further south from College Station to the Houston area try the St. Arnold's line of beers. They are a large Microbrewery that produces about 10 different brews some of which are seasonal. They have a tour at hteir brewery every Saturday at 1 pm. However, now they charge $5 and you get a sovineer glass and tokens for four beers. If you use one of their glasses you can buy, you get about a pint  for each token.

Look at their web site

http://www.saintarnold.com/

I like very, very cold light beer , so St. Arnold's Lawnmower is my favorite. It is named for when you have been out moving the lawn and come in all hot and sweaty and you need something cold and light to really quench your thirst.

Drink On, But Responsibily!

P.S. - Trivia Two years ago I replaced my second refigerator because it would cool cold enough to keep my favorite beverages chilled to 33-34 degrees F. We were goingto give it away to Purple Hearts, but ended up putting it in the garage, just in case we needed even some more extra refigerator space. LOL it is still there!
