fat boy PS3 changes settings

I have the original PS3 box and have a small problem,
The system has changed it's settings twice. Is there a way to lock your system settings? This has been kind of a pain. It seems like the HDMI out put is the biggest issue. I put it on 1080p for my Panasonic and it was reset to a 480
some how. Any help out there?

The reset shouldn't occur unless you are holding the power button for too long on the PS3 unit itself. If you turn on the PS3 by the touch sensitive button and you hold it until it beeps a second time it automatically reverts to basic video and audio output settings (a feature that's quite useful). Other than that the PS3 should retain it's settings. Does anyone else but you use the PS3?

The whole family uses the system for games and movies. Thanks

It's quite possible that someone else has been reseting it without realizing it doing what I just described.

It happens often if you hold the power button too long. I always turn off the system with the controller. Also if it's the resolution, the system has a menu that allows you to select which resolutions to select and allow. Most games are only actually 720 and I don't know if it has DVD upscaling, because whenever I pop in a DVD it switched my projector to say 480. Only time it jumps to 1080 is during a blu ray, and some games.

I have to agree here someone is holding the power button to long on start up. Yes the PS3 does upscale dvds just have to set it up that way.

Where is that setting at cause I haven't found it? Every time I pop in a dvd it switches to 480.

It's in the DVD menu. You'll have to put in a DVD to access the menu. If my PS3 was playing DVDs right now I would be able to go through it so I can give you a play by play. The best that I can tell you is that you will have to push the triangle button while watching the DVD and a menu will pop up over the video playback and there is a settings category that allows you to change the function of the scaler (it's probably set to standard or not scale, or whatever the default setting is). I'm sure you fiddling around with it will probably get the job done.

you would go to video settings click on it then scroll down to DVD/BD upscale it will give options off, normal, double scale, full screen. hope this helps.

Oh so that's what it does, so would I want to push double or full?

I have mine set to normal because it fits my screen now I know you are using a projector you should try each of the setting to see which looks best to you.

I've actually used both and noticed no difference, I'm not sure what the difference was between the two.

There doesn't seem to be a difference between full and normal but if you use double the picture on the screen appears larger.
