I knew I had to do something when my wife called me at my son's baseball game & I had to walk her thru how to use the remote & to get all the HT gear on. I've been over it a thousand times with her but it never sunk in.

In my search for a new universal remote I came across this one...http://www.x10.com/products4/google/...ps_lp1023.html. This thing is the real deal. It does so much that I can't believe it. It was simple to set up & you can tweak it to really suit your needs. To make a long story short, my wife absolutely loves it & even for her it's a breeze to operate. She has the whole HT system up & running in 1/2a second.

I bought it for $69.99 which also included free shipping. For how easy this is & for what it does I expected it to cost a whole heck of a lot more. Highly recommended!!

Nice, but I refuse to buy anything from X10.com since they were the first and bay far the worst user of pop-up, pop-under, flashing banner, and obnoxious web page ads.

Also I have tried Logitech remotes of the same caliber. I liked them but my family, specially the wife could not get the hang of them. The "activity" based thing was lost on her, and I really was not that fond of it.

Granted the site is a bit over the top. But once you get over the initial shock & check out the remote...for $69 bucks it's a tremendous product. You probably can't do better for $200. Bottom line, the wife is very happy...me too!

Nothing's worse than car ads on the radio by the way.

Sure you can - Home Theater Master MX-350 + MRF-250 RF basestation. :)

I read the manual for it and it does have some of the features of the MX-350 but there is no mention of how much memory is available so I can't tell if it could learn every code from every remote I have nor does it indicate how many steps a macro can have or if the macro can span multiple device modes.
There are only 10 'side keys' (as the manual calls them) whereas the MX remote has 8 pages of 5 for a total of 40 for each device.

It does appear that you can mix device commands in a single mode (like receiver functions in the cable mode as I do) and that's good. The main selling feature is the color icons with TV logos but with cable or satellite most people use the guide to select what they want. I don't even bother to program the 'favorites button on my MX-350.

It is a very good deal for $69. I might pick one up just for the heck of it.

That remot is interesting but personally I would spend a little more on a URC MX-980 and MRF-350 RF base station (dealer cost through work :) ). It has a full color screen and I much prefer PC programing. It definetely beats both the Harmony and X10.

I love URC remotes. I've played around with an MX-900 and love it. I still don't know exactly how to program everything I want via the programming software. If I could master it, I'd purchase one.

I own the MX-900 but if the 980 was available when I purchased the 900 I would have went with the 980. I have an installer log-in and have taken the training courses. The software is not meant for the consumer. Unlike the Logitech software the URC software is non-linear which often equals confusion for the novice. If you don't have the updatable software from URC then it makes it very difficult to program because you cannot get access to the complete IR code database which provides the all-important discrete codes.

I'm just looking for a user friendly remote that can operate all my gear in simple steps. The X10 fits the bill perfectly, & for a whopping $69 you can't beat it. It's so easy to operate my wife is just tickled pink with it.

I'm not the least bit interested in something capable of launching the space shuttle.

Can the X10 do the Lutron dimmers and the ceiling fans as well as all the A/V gear?

Thanks,
Tommy

It's kinda funny that whenever you see wireless surveillance systems for sale, there's almost always a pic of a hot chick in her underwear, bathing suite, or some other various stage of undress. I guess protecting your home isn't a good enough reason to own one they think so they gotta appeal to the more sinister side of small wireless camara operation.

I need a couple of asprin after seeing that site.

well the remote is still new to you, glad your enjoying it, however id say it will not stand the test of time as most of their products havent and dont. Aside AMX and Crestron, urc is one of the most reliable remotes, especially if you want bullet proof macros, and with the new msc400 base station, serial control now an option.

That was one of my concerns considering how cheezy the whole web site is laid out. But then again for the $69 selling price...I took a shot. So far so good & it does everything as advertised & is a breeze to set up.

I'm not sayiny there aren't better remotes out there, but if you compare apples to apples (features & price) I think it will be hard to beat.

If my wife is pleased with it & she can actually operate it, then it's a winner in my book. Now I'm not getting any more calls at the baseball field!! :)
