"the A-9555 sounded just fine with its stock fuse, when I replaced that fuse with a HiFi-Tuning fuse of the same rating (6.3A, slow-blow), the sound became clearer and more precise, with crisper transients but without any of that "overetched" character that I dislike."

That is a quote out of a Stereophile receiver review. Should I be looking to get a "(slow-blow)" :D or is this guy just yanking my crank? :D:D

There are three type of fuses, slow blow, fast blow and very fast blow. Slow blow fuses can take a temporary in-rush surge but blow on a sustained surge. Many amplifiers will use slow-blow fuses because of the large in-rush when power is turned on. If your electronic device has the fast or very fast fuse you can cause damage by installing a fuse designed to allow overcurrent conditions.

Thanks major. My question was really about the claimed difference in sound with the replacement fuse. Sounds like bull to me.

Well, if you like the sound of "sizzle n' pop" that come along with acrid smell of electronic smoke.....

Wrapping your fuses in aluminum foil works well too.

Ignoring the fact that you need the correct type of fuse for the electronics in question, anybody that thinks changing a fuse can dramatically alter the actual sound is just plain stupid.

It's the equivalent of believing that you if you change the brushed aluminum volume control knob for one made of rare mahogany wood the sound will be improved. These 'reviewers' should be forced to take a basic test before they are approved to write nonsense in their 'reviews'.

The reason I ran into this bit of nonsense is because Peng and Avaserfi directed me to some bench tests for receivers and speakers. Granted, I'm not going to understand everything and I'll end up retaining even less of what I read. But for crying out loud, why do they print this crap? It wasn't even in an advertisement.

Stereophile's credibility has taken a huge hit in my eye's.

Well, this is nothing new from that rag:D That kind of review is what keeps them in business, ad revenues:D
It sells and the gullible golden ears just gobble this silliness up like there is no tomorrow:D

Just wrap your fuses with audio grade, oxygen-free, virgin aluminum foil

Now wait a minute. I seriously doubt that virgin foil will be oxygen free:D
That comes with more processing and then it is not virgin anymore.;)

there's only one kind of "blow" that will change how you hear

err, don't audiophiles already do this?

These 'reviewers' should be forced to take a basic test before they are approved to write nonsense in their 'reviews'.
i think they are doing it on purpose ... :D

It affects your hearing? You mean like it makes you paranoid and you have auditory halucinations or do you mean it makes your hearing better/worse?

I canceled my subscription years ago, when they advised putting green markers on CDs and polishing them with Armor all! I met the purp Sam Tellig at a NY show. I would say he met DSM criteria for schizophrenia.

I never had a subscription to that one because we sold them but I immediately tossed all of my copies when I read "The Greening of the Discs". I honestly hoped it was a joke but unfortunately, he was serious. Some of the people who came into the store didn't appreciate me telling them it was BS.

I had the "enlightening" experience of having someone tell me to put Cramolin on the power cord blades on all of my equipment. He said it would make things sound more clear and tighten the bass response. I told him to leave.

Scroll down to fuses, that's what they use.

Any site that has background music should probably not be trusted.:(

The fuse comes before the audio proccessing. Using a gold fuse with a 100% snakeoil extract core will be nullified by having a standard powercord, power outlet, romex, breaker panel, power pole, or power company.

If you change one of those you are still bottlenecked by the others. It may be different in your area, but my power company doesn't offer any of those upgrades.
