Fan Auto or Continuous

I just opened up my second RX-V1600. And after driving it hard for a couple of hours, I noticed how hot it felt, without a fan running, and went into advanced settings, and set it up for continuous fan mode.
Its not in a cabinet, has plenty of circulation around it... while it does produce some noise, I am assuming that the continuous fan running option must not degrade the longevity of the fan, or Yamaha wouldn't make it a settup option.
Another question or concern I have.... I don't know what happened to the first receiver...but it quit coming on with LED lights, or any sound whatsoever. I was running it in pure direct mode on speakers B, and came home to find it had quit working...
I wonder if the pure direct mode had something todo with te receiver not shutting itself down say, if it was having problems with wiring, heat, etc... I hope I don't have any other problems with this unit... The first one was not making me happy, and I am glad that butterflyphoto.com was willing to exchange it for a new unit, 5 weeks after I had purchased it. THe first unit was not doing a good job of hdmi switching, in that I would get occasional blackouts of video, while audio would continue.... I havn't seen that yet with the new unit.
I cannot hear the fan, while unit is running at lower volumn settings...

any comments welcome...

My personal experience is that Yamahas tend to run hot. This includes an HTR-5740, and RX-V757, and an RX-V2500. I offloaded the RX-V2500's front left and right speakers to an external amp and shut off Zones 2 and 3 and it will still be very warm at the end of a movie (8 ohm Infinity Alpha speakers).

The best thing you can do is set the fan to continuous and turn off the external zones (if possible on the 1600, I'm not familiar with it).

What you are seeing is nothing new. Unfortunately. :(

Thanks, I dropped an E to yamaha tech support asking them if they think is advantageous or harmful to run the fan in continuous...

I have it setup for that now....

It definately wont hurt anything to run the fan continuously (unless you can hear the fan running) and would be adventagous if your receiver is not well ventalated with a few inches of space above, on the sides, and an open back.
