Falling in love with Bass

I've had the SVS SB12-Plus for about 6 months now. I bought it because I liked the small form factor and I didn't think a monster sub would work aesthetically for the room.

I watched the first Matrix movie yesterday and turned up the volume. That little sucker actually hits pretty hard and for the first time I could actually feel the bass instead of just 'hear it'. So naturally I'm now second guessing myself and wondering if I could have done even better with one of the larger monster subs.

I have two locations in my room suitable for a sub. I can see the future now and am thinking I want a second SB12-Plus.

Dual subs are a wonderful thing, I will never go back to a single subwoofer.:D

MDS,

First, I'm very happy for you. Love is a splendid thing, indeed.

Second...six months?!? It took six months to turn it up? Audioholic might not fit. You're more of a social basser. :)

That is excellent that it can do that, and at such a nice form factor. Are you considering any other subs besides another SB12-Plus? I love my PC-Ultra. Love it. It takes up about the same footprint as yours, but the trade-off is height. If you can fit in a cylinder (both volume-wise and aesthetically), I'd highly recommend that you give it some consideration. Either that or ask Greg to build a spare of Andrew's design and ship you one. :)

I'm slow, what can I say? :)

I got the sub, did the most basic calibration and thought well this is pretty good. Then I finally decided to push it.

I'm tired of saving money. It's high time I get what I want. Bought the Tosh LCD, new MX-350 and RF basestation, will start the tile job by the end of the month and will follow up with new speakers and a Squeezebox soon. Then my checking account will be zero but I'll be happy. :D

The second sub can really add a lot more to the system than you'd expect. It's definitely a worthwhile upgrade to me.

I have fallen in love with bass since getting the Ultra. A good sub can really enhance the bass experience.

IMO I'd sell the SB12 (good re-sale value), and get the PB13-Ultra.

I'd love to get something like the SB12 for my stereo music system, but I'm not sure I have room for it in my room :(

Your room would have to be a closet not to have a place to put it it's so small.

I basically have one corner it would fit in. And I'd have to do some rearranging of a number of things to come close to fitting it. I mocked it up once, I'm not sure it'll work right now.
