I'm looking forward to change my Polk series. After days and nights of research during several weeks, I've narrowed down to two brands: Axiom and PSB. But can we call this a fair comparison??

These are the systems I'd buy:
Axiom Epic 80 350/500 (is the EP500 too much??)
PSB Image (image or command system??)

Question for folks with Axiom M80ti's: Are the dual tweeters too much? From the audioholics review, the guy had to put two center channels to balance sound level.

BTW, how better 7.1 would be over 5.1??

How much better depends on the room and the placement of all of the speakers. Also, most films are just 5.1 (or less), though typically 7.1 processors can synthetically generate the extra channels.

If you have the space for it, and the money for it, I would go with 7.1. But if you lack either one, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I have 6.1 sound, which, in my opinion, is only a little better than 5.1. It is more important that you have good speakers, good placement, decent acoustics in your room, and that you set the balance and delays properly. If you don't get those things right (or nearly right), it will suck either way.

You may wish to go to listen to a 7.1 setup, and compare it with using only 5.1 of the speakers. Just keep in mind that you need to be careful of salespeople, who may wish to try to artificially make 7.1 sound relatively even better than it naturally does, so they can sell you more stuff.

Again, if you have the space and money, get 7.1, but do not buy lessor speakers in order to have 7.1 instead of only 5.1.

Axom M80's

Keep in mind that the M80's are 4 ohm so you will need a good mid-fi receiver or an outboard amp to drive then. The M60's are 8 ohms and only sacrafice a little in max SPL.
The EP500 is a high end sub. In the under $1k price range, many prefer the price/performance of the products from SVS and HSU.

Many say that M60ti's/M80ti's are day and night...

I'm aware of those. I was thinking of SVS PB12 or PB12/V but I'm a little worried about down firing subs. And I also red on the axiom site that the EP500 goes down to 19 hertz. Mine is a Velodyne DPS-10 and I'm so tired of this boomy one.

But like one guy said a few posts earlier, I should get a mid-fi receiver before buying axioms... just to see what my polks are capable of when pushed properly. Was thinking of HK AVR-635 or NAD T753 (nearly double the price of the HK :( )
