My dealer has a very slightly used pair of rosenut 804Ds for sale for $6,000. In terms of looks, I can't tell the difference between it and a brand new pair for $7,500. I have not listened to them yet but I will of course do so before buying. I really love the sound of the 804Ds he had hooked up.
I'm curious as to what a fair offer for these is, since normally I would have thought the price difference between any new and any used item would be much higher than that, unless the item was extremely rare.
I'm also considering a used McIntosh 4200 or 4100 receiver. The salesperson at my dealer suggested I need about 80-150 watts to drive the 804Ds. The 4200 is about 75 watts per channel. I've noticed that power ratings vary dramatically between manufacturers, with some makes like McIntosh having a reputation for very conservative ratings. I sometimes like slightly loud music but ear-splitting volumes are not necessary. Would the McIntosh receiver be likely to provide sufficient volume for my fairly modest needs driving those speakers?
Thanks for any thoughts
