Extented front stage.

Hey

I've seen a lot of setups which include more than the usual 2x fronts and 1x center speaker, and include an extra set of front speakers. Is there any use for this except loudness? And I'm not talking about height speakers, but literal extra front speakers. Does this sound better in stereo (even on normal volumes) or is there another reason to do this? Like this setup for example:

Loudness and horrible sound is all it will get anyone with that setup. If a larger front sound stage is in order, better speakers are what are needed.

LOL reminds me of something my sister did when she put a 5.0 speaker set all together on top of a tv cabinet, she didn't want speaker wires anywhere else. Maybe a weird implementation of front wides?

I think some of those photos you see is just the owner putting them all together so one photo shows all the speakers. That's good because none of us has any way of knowing what the bookshelf version of your main floorstanders might look like, and two photos is a lot of bother.

Yeah, looks like they didn't know what to do with the bookshelf speakers. Or it was a C-list photo. Agreed. That would sound like $}{|t

Since the sound of the speakers will be exactly the same, they will create lobing patterns all over the place by interfering with each other.

I was hoping to add a 2nd set of front speakers as an A or B type of setup. However, it doesn't matter b/c I just do not have the room. I was never going to play both at the same time. Just wanted to use one set most of the time and at others use the second. Have also decided that I am NOT going to mess with a BR setup of any kind. Hardly ever in there.

Cheers,

Phil
