I bought a brand new 7300HK A/V at Fry's almost a month now.
do you think I should buy an extended warranty for this unit since I notice that it produces lots of heat. I heard that this's normal but afraid that it will break down faster than others?

Any comment?

Ouch!
Being more of a computer geek than a audiophile, I will say that I'm not a very big fan of Fry's (NEVER BUY A RETURNED/WHITE STICKER ITEM!!!). Some of their buisness policies are shady, at best, in my opinion. $250.00 is pretty steep for an extended warranty if you ask me. My 4 year extended warranty from Best Buy for my Pioneer VSX-1015TX (which I'm picking up this Saturday) is only $35.00. Since you already bought it, I would probably start my incantations and pass on it. The incantations would be for insurance that it won't crap out on you after a year and , god forbid, should it break down the repair bill will be $250.00 or less!

Right, if it breaks down, shipping will probably be around $40 and repairs around $60 an hour. You have a lot of room to make up for that $250 should the unit die. Had you said $50, I'd say go for it.

Dont give it a secong thought, just enjoy it. Electronics last forever nowadays and if its going to break, its in the first year as a rule.

I like Shokhead's idea. But if you really want to know, it depends on where you live. Per federal and some state’s laws, everything sold as ‘new’ product has an implied warranty attached as to the product’s fit and function…meaning it works and will continue to work for its intended purpose. The FTC also wants you to know:

Generally, there is no specified duration for implied warranties under state laws. However, the state statutes of limitations for breach of either an express or an implied warranty are generally four years from date of purchase. This means that buyers have four years in which to discover and seek a remedy for problems that were present in the product at the time it was sold. It does not mean that the product must last for four years. It means only that the product must be of normal durability, considering its nature and price.

Federal law prohibits manfs from disclaiming implied warranties on any consumer product if they offer a written warranty for that product.

You may want to look into your state’s laws regarding implied and expressed warranties.
