Hi All,

This is my first posting on Audioholics, although I have followed your website for many years, originally purchasing an RX-V2500 based on a review you wrote about it.

So here's my question(s).

I currently own a RX-V2500 unit. I have considered moving to the RX-V2700 mainly because of the LAN option and upscaling. I will also be purchasing a flat screen TV in the near future and would also like the ease of HDMI ports.

Reading articles posted on this forum I am now in two minds whether to wait until they release a better model!
Have Yamaha really cut corners on the newer 2700 AMP? (Also the 2600?). Some people say hang to the 2500 as it was a better quality unit also has THX.

It's also my brothers birthday soon and he really likes/wants my AMP, I was going to give it to him and buy the 2700 for myself. Do I still do this or buy him a 2500 or 2600 unit intead?

Any advice greatly received.

Jason - UK

PS: Any suggestion where to get 220v/240v units as the one i have is US. 110v (purchased on ebay).

Yes, Yamaha will have a new model out in a couple months. Should be a good chance to get the latest features, or a better deal on the "old" RX-V2700 model. The upscaling feature on the 2700 is not that great and unless you have an HD-DVD or BluRay player, there isn't much advantage of the HDMI audio either. These are convenience features and some people are willing to pay for them. If you read the more recent reviews, the amp in the 2600 and 2700 is equal or better than the 2500.

1. dont upgrade to the 2700 for upscaling because they do a lousy job of upscaling.

2. HDMI alone isnt worthy of an upgrade.

my 2 cents....don't upgrade for those reasons. More or less.... you'd be spending $1,000 to replace what you have with the same thing.
