So i want to expand my speaker system to 5.1 surround. Right now my specs are :

Klipsch RB 61 Bookshelf Speaker
Klipsch RC 52 Center Speaker
Klipsch RW 12D Subwoofer
Pioneer VSX60 Elite

I am wondering on whether to get the RS 52 or RS 42. But now ive heard that bookshelfs make good surround speakers as well? The room in which i ahve the system is not the biggest so i probably wont be able to go 7.1 anytime soon. Just curious as to what the best speakers to add for surrounds are the best in my case. Thanks in advance.

If your setup is primarily for music, go with bookshelf speakers and if movies, either of RS's will be fine.

I personally prefer monopole surrounds (which would be the bookshelf speakers in this case) because I do listen to a lot of multichannel music listening. In both cases of the bookshelf or their RS models, they all have integrated mounting options for all of them, so the choice will end up being more of which looks like it will work better for you. The bookshelf models tend to be less expensive because they have half the drivers.
