I didn't want to hijack the HO thread so I asked here:

----k---- mentioned that he used a creative soundblaster live (49USD) for his roomeqwizard

if I had a 75USD budget, which soundblaster do I get? (for the purpose of roomEQ, true RTA, etc.)

(I currently have a 4ch CMI sound card)

let's talk about the mic after this one...

Just about all of the Creative cards are lowest common denominator in my opinion. Ever since the consumer sound card market collapsed, I haven't seen Creative put out anything new or special that's worth much. I would just guess that any card from their line that has the inputs and outputs you want will be fine. I'd get the cheapest one.

However, if you really want a good interface, then you might look at one of the cards that are made for the pro market. Ones that aren't made by Creative. They'll probably cost you more, but should deliver higher quality in general.

Anyway, that's just my opinion based on zero facts. So you shouldn't believe anything I just said. In fact, it's probably all lies.

yeah I was looking at the jacks at the back of the SB Live card. it looks to have the same jacks my CMI card has. I am now looking at their creative LX external unit (saves me the trouble of opening up my pc - and it has an optical out)

what other brands have this type of card/external thingy (been out of the PC loop for awhile)
