Are there any receivers that are out that allows me to hook up a 10 band equalizer to a receiver? if so what brand are they?
My uncle just gave me hes 10 band equalizer that he had hook up to hes home stereo since he sold hes gear, and now he doesn't have any use for it. so now i'm stuck with it. I own a pioneer vsx-515 k but i was told that, that this unit don't allow me to hook up the equalizer. here is the brand and model# AudioSource EQ 200.
my budget is not that great, around $600.

You want one that has a "main" or "main in" loop, which allows you to separate the pre/pro section from the amp. Not too many receivers have this; usually found on more expensive models and not often in the $600 range (used maybe).

Hook up your cd player to the eq, then the eq to the cd input on your Pioneer. You can hook up a tape deck, vcr, or dvd (two channel only) to the eq as well, but you'll have to run the Pioneer off the cd input for eq'd sound off the other components.

Only a few select top of the line (read $5000+) receivers have had the main outs AND IN's over the last couple years. You'll either have to go with an older receiver that has the main outs and ins, or get one with just main outs and hook those outs to the eq then from the eq to an external amp.

If the Pioneer will allow you to monitor a tape being recorded, just hook it up to the "Tape" in and out connection.

Haven't seen a tape monitor feature on a receiver for a 2 or 3 years. Panasonic had one, Pioneer too. Those were the last ones I remember.

$5000 Ouch, anyway I read your comments on hooking it up. I'll try it out.

I should say that i don't have a cd player,but do have a combo vhs/dvd that supports mp3 etc.

You should be able to run it through your tape loop. Tape out to eq in...eq out to tape in. Listen in monitor mode for eq effects and the combo player should play cd's if it will play mp3's.

Cool. Is it a surround sound receiver? If so, that's a rare feature in a surround receiver. What model # is it?

Thanks,
Brad

The upper end of the NAD 7x2 series (762 for example) has full main in/pre-outs (all 5 channels), and they are way south $5K. On the used market, I bet $600 would do it. Not sure about the current 7x3 series.

In fact, the hi dollar receivers that are in the $5K price range from Denon and Pioneer do nor have the correct in/outs. Go figure.

Since you are talking a 2CH EQ, you will want to find a unit with not just a tape input, but it needs to have a tape monitor switch. Those too have gotten pretty uncommon.
