Before there was Tape 2 Monitor on receivers now I don't know what to use to hook up a component. I like to see lights dance with the sound levels, must receivers or all of them don't have this entertainment. Can anyone help with this connection?

Put the eq between the source and the receiver. If you're playing a cd, run the cd into the eq, then the eq into the cd input on the receiver.

The reason today's receivers don't have a tape monitor button (tape loop), is because you can't eq a digital surround source before it's processed, and most receivers are meant to process digital surround. You can, however, eq the converted digital sound once it becomes analog again. You can put a 5 channel analog eq between a receivers output and a 5 channel power amp. If your next thought is (well, that's a waste of receiver money) - then you're right.

If all you want to do is watch the pretty lights, there's no problem.

Simply connect the tape out to the input of the light box. Ignore the return path.
