I need some advice. I have a dedicated area with no ambient light issues. Is the 8700 still worth the additional cost over the 8350? I wish I could visit a showroom, but there is nothing near where I live. Thanks in advance.

BTW, I did read a comparison on Projector Reviews.com between the 8350 and the 8700. I will primarily use the projector for movies and occasional sporting events viewed on a 135" white screen with a gain of 1.1.

I guess it depends if saving money or darker black levels are important to you. I'm more than happy with my $1100 Epson HC 8350.

If the contrast was a little better and sharpness barely sharper, the below picture would look almost exactly like the actual image the projector puts out:

Vracer. Thanks for the reply. BTW, I purchased the 8700 over the 8350.

Rob - I think you made a good choice. The 8350 will likely be my most recommended projector for the entry level folks this year, but the 8700 or a JVC is where you go if you have a good space. Dark walls, dark floor, dark ceiling - those are the environments which can take advantage of the better projectors better than anything else.

To often people buy better projectors for lousy rooms and then wonder why they don't perform so well.

Kind of like putting B&W Nautilus speakers into a bathroom... what's the point!?!?

You want that balance of quality vs. the environment it is in.
