From what I can tell from reviews is this two models are very comparable except for price. I am on the fence on which to go with any thought's?

On the one hand you have a projector which is really good - while on the other hand, you have a projector that is very good.

The driving point here: They are both very good.

That may sound stupid, but it's not like things were 5 years ago when I got my Panasonic PT-L300U (960x540). Back then you had a choice between only a handful of manufacturers and the names such as Runco or Sharp ran $10,000+ for quality that was 10% better than the L300. Now you have half a dozen or more choices that cost about as much as my Panny did and the resolution jumps to 1080p. For a few grand more you get things like the RS2 from JVC which give that incremental improvement, but the savings you get only results in a slight drop in overall quality - which you may only miss if the RS2 was sitting right next to the one you buy.

Check the specs closely and read the reviews, then go ahead and make your own informed decision.

There is absolutely NO wrong answer and Epson, who manufacturers most of the LCD panels that are used by all manufacturers, has really stepped up their game as of late.

Ditto to what BMXTRIX wrote. Five or ten years ago one had to spend $10,000-$20,000 to get one of the best players...now they're in the realm of $2,000-$3,000 (though you can still spend $10,000+).

Also, those two models are about the same price...unless you're looking at the Epson Pro. But why would you be doing that? Either one is phenonenal. Not to be trite, but you need to look at the differences and attributes of each, and see which one best suits your needs and environment. Cheers.

What is the dynamic contrast ratio of 50,000:1 that the Epson 1080UB boasts? What does that mean dynamic setting?

I have been looking at projectors to upgrade my Optoma H30. (She's been quite a workhorse)

Dont pay attention to those insane contrast ratios.
On the Panasonic and Epson you can only get those in dynamic mode. On the panasonic you also need the auto iris on.

The result is horrible color and black levels.
When in proper color mode and calibrated the contrast ratios of both projectors are around 3000-4000:1 max.

The Panasonic is much cheaper though, namely if you get it from this site with the coupon code. (Around 2400 out the door.)
