I saw the 32" Envision L32W461 LCD at Costco for $800. Looks like a pretty good buy and includes an NTSC and ATSC tuner.

I am interested in any feedback on its video performance as compared to other LCDs in a similar price range including the Sceptre. I have a custom built entertainment center that will accomidate a 32" LCD that does not have speakers on the sides.

You probably already did this but I searched the web for reviews and found only stock spec previews, no real user reviews. I can't believe how inexpensive it is- 32" HD for less than a grand- amazing. I'm also building a custom entertainment center and don't want speakers on the sides. In fact, I don't want them on the bottom either since I'll be using the sound system (which I have yet to buy also). One thing I noticed about the Envision is it has VGA support but not DVI, which is odd since it has HDMI, and even my hp
19" monitor has DVI support. But if you're not going to plug a computer into it, that doesn't matter. At less than half the price of many competitors, the picture would have to be blatantly awful to justify ignoring it as an option.

OPPO LCD TV/DVD combination player

OPPO Digital is offering an even better buy than Panasonic's! Although it's a 20" LCD screen, you have a DVD player attached and it's more stylish. It does resemble Mac a few years ago, but it's so much more attractive than large black boxes. You can hook up your digital camera to it to display your pictures, and maybe even run a slideshow, watch TV and DVDs, and use it as a computer monitor. This bad boy runs for only $599. You should check it out!

LCD options

Mc,
Thanks, but I am looking for a 32" screen. I will probably get an Oppo DVD player, though.

Mango,
I noticed that the 32" Sceptre Digital has the side speakers and will meet my <33" width requirement. The new Olevia models also look pretty slick, but you have to spend $1k for the model with an HD tuner.

The video section of HDMI and DVI is compatable. HDMI, however, can also carry digital audio signals. Most consumer gear is switching to HDMI while PC monitors and video cards have the DVI connection. You can buy cables with DVI on one end and HDMI on the other.

I didn't realize you could actually hook them up to each other, that's good to know. So as long as the TV has at least a couple of HDMI inputs I can hijack one for the computer video card. Of course I might just hook the computer into an HDMI input on the amp. I was asking someone in a store a while back if computers would eventually have HDMI outputs and he looked at me like I was crazy. I know there are separate sound and video cards, but wouldn't it be desirable to hook up a computer tower to your home theater/sound system with a single all digital multi-channel high-def cable? Sorry to wander off topic. The westinghouse 32" has an HDTV tuner too, and I think it's similarly priced. What's Cosco's return policy?

32" LCDs

Buckeye,
That is a good price on the Oliva, thanks for the info.

Mango,
Costco has the ultimate return policy, they will take anything back. Once I had a camera that broke when it was about 2 years old. I asked if I could return it and they handed me cash for the last price it sold for. Don't even think I had the receipt.

Envision 37"

Terrific buy. Need some TLC and patience to set up. We coupled it with a Samsung Home Theatre system the combo is outstanding. You really do need setup software to get the thing tuned just right. There are a couple of movies currently available in CD that have setup software on the disk (that should be the case on all movie CD's). The one BIG issue is that Envision only provides a couple of IR codes....sooooooo...you'll have to find a Universal Remote that will couple all. We went for the Logitech 550. Cool. Staples price of $599 right on and unbelievable.
